I want to take minute to talk about a wireless technology and we’re going to talk about a wireless USB Hub. You may have seen USB Hubs in the past. The idea is pretty simple. Computers generally only have a certain number of USB ports on them. For example, this laptop if you take a look at it has one USB port there and one right there but if you have four or five different devices that you want to connect, sometimes it’s handy to have a USB Hub. Well, when USB Hubs first came to the market, they have wires attached to them, meaning that you’d attach one wire from your USB Hub to your computer system and then you just plug in additional devices to that. Well, now they’ve actually come out with what is called wireless USB Hubs. Why would you want that? Well, this makes it a little bit more interesting because say for example, you want to print from your laptop computer to your printer. Well, in there you’d need be connected to that printer. You’re having a wireless USB Hub means that you simply plug the printer into the hub and now you can with your laptop computer walk to any room in your house whether it’s your den or your porch or what not and print to that device wirelessly. How does it do that? Well, you do have to put in the receiver which is pretty big. So, that is a little bit more clutter but the idea is that once you got this plugged in, it now talks to this device wirelessly and allows you to plug in anything into here that would be USB. Now, there are some rules here that come into play which kind of make the technology a little bit more limited than wire technology and what that is, is first of all speed. You are supposed to get the full USB 2.0 rating between this wireless device and your, you know for example your laptop computer. The problem is, is that as you get further away from the wireless source in your hub, your speed actually degrades and it happens pretty quickly. As a matter of fact, you don’t even get the full USB 2.0 speed if you’re more than six meters away which tends to limit you from a wireless stamp point which kind of goes against the all whole idea of being free and not tangled against wires.
