Is Britney Spears Mentally Ready For 'The X Factor?'

Amid reports that the pop star might become a new judge on the show, media wonder if she's ready to go off script on camera.

  (Image Source: BritneySpears.com ) BY LAUREN ZIMA Rumors are flying that Britney Spears could be the newest judge on “The X Factor.” “Simon Cowell reportedly spearheading a $10 million offer for Britney Spears to fill a vacant spot at the judges’ table. ... Wants to bring in bigger starpower so ‘The X Factor’ can compete with shows like ‘American Idol’ and ‘The Voice.’” But would Spears be ready for such a high-profile gig, one that required her to interact off script? Years after her 2008 meltdown, her estate is still under the conservatorship of her father. And it’s been less than a year since Spears’ parents deemed her “mentally incapable” of testifying in a court case involving her former manager. Access Hollywood spoke with Rolling Stone’s Joe Levy. “The terrifying thing, or exciting depending on your perspective, is that it’s been a really long time since we’ve seen live-action Britney. ... Up ‘til now, Britney’s been an entertainment robot.” And on KGO , the idea is deemed "terrible." “It is a horrendous idea to get Britney, because Britney can barely function. ... They take the Xanax, they take the Sudafed, they shake it up and she’s a walking zombie. They light her, and it’s like night of the living Britney.” Still, The Hollywood Reporter argues... “‘ … Spears brings legitimacy as a successful recording artist, something critics of X Factor say was missing in last year's competition, as well as a level of unpredictability and drama that also was largely absent from the Fox show when Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul were judges.’” But — is the gig even a go? The Hollywood Reporter says Spears’ fiance and former manager, Jason Trawick, is negotiating the deal. But as KDFW reports … “The pop princess was offered $10 million to join the show, but declined. She wants $20 million.” Access Hollywood reports Spears would undergo media training before starting the gig. The deal is rumored to be finalized early next week.
