Jaime King on Her Cheerleader Uniform & New Show
Jaime King: The snap, the hair toss like all that kind of stuff. It was so edgy and so real I thought like a really amazing film.
Lindsay Miller: Hey guys it’s Lindsay from Pop Sugar and I’m here today with Jaime King from the new show My Generation. Thank you so much for dropping by today.
Jaime King: I am happy to be here I was saying it to my favorite sites and I’m very excited.
Lindsay Miller: Good, good well we love the show. When you first read the script, what is it about the concept or the characters that really spoke to you?
Jaime King: I couldn’t believer there’s actually ringing it a teleplay. It was so, edgy and so real I thought like a really amazing film and what really drew me to the material is that you got these eight different characters that are like the pump, the nerd, the jack the beauty queen. All these different types but as you read about this characters you realize that those stereotypes are an illusion.
Lindsay Miller: One thing about the show is that it follows this group of people from 18 to 28 and those are two times in most people’s lives that are so important and have such a big impact, why do you think that is?
Jaime King: Well, I think at 18 you are officially an adult. It’s like this mythical year that comes up in your life that you wait for the big year that you really become an adult and then a hitch and then you’re like wait, I don’t even know what the hell I’m doing with my life because you don’t really know who you are inside of yourself.
And at 28, I think it’s very formative because you’ve got 30 kind of looming over you and then all of a sudden like oh, my god, am I going to have children, should I have children, should I be married? Should I not be married like do I have any regrets? So I think that they’re just very profound years
Lindsay Miller: Now how would you describe Jackie when we first meet her at age 28?
Jaime King: She’s this very types structured wife and everything is very confined and everything is all you know what do you want, everything is a perfect life.
It is a perfect life and I have it with husband are on everything for her is a show. So I want to think is when you see her, when she’s 18 she’s the most open and fun, vibrant, lively tenacious, exuberant girl.
Lindsay Miller: We do know the watching the first episode that she went to LA try to make it as an actress, so she does have maybe some regrets about the way her life went.
Jaime King: I can’t give away too much but you’ll find a lot more about what happened to her when she went to Los Angeles. It’s really fascinating for me as an actor to play a girl that has this for dreams because I was that girl. I was the girl that had big dreams and did never question them. She never questioned them when she’s in the show like this is what I’m doing. I’m move in LA. I will be a movie star and that’s why I was even up like 14. I was like this is what I’m doing. I had no doubt in my mind but it’s intense for me to play because I go sat everyday wondering what it would be like if I never accomplished my dream.
Lindsay Miller: Even though Jackie presents the sort of perfect life, we see a few cracks in it. What is in this? It used to been what? Three years?
Male: It would be two years in May.
Jaime King: Jackie so wants to be loved that after her fulfilling her dreams that she tries to trick herself in believing that this marriage will be happy and she does everything the way that he expects her to do it.
In a way, Jackie is playing a part and her role of the perfect wife but you do see the tension. You do see the cracks and that was really important to me in playing her that even though you see this perfect thing on the outside that a lot of people pretend that everything is okay but really underneath there’s a lot more going on that, that they don’t necessarily express.
Lindsay Miller: Kind of on a lighter note so when Jackie was 18 like you said she was a cheerleader, so what’s it’s like in getting in the uniform.
Jaime King: It has been so bizarre dark, I feel almost like illegal like it should be illegal but I’m wearing I wear like I’m 31 and I go and I put on a cheerleading skirt for work and it just feels odd.
Lindsay Miller: What’s the best trick your having like your cheerleading bag now?
Jaime King: How to act sassy it’s like those girls who like sassy and --
Lindsay Miller: You’ve got to have a snap.
Jaime King: You’ve got sassy, the snap, the hair toss, it’s really fun I actually find it quite easy to play that character because I just go in with an open mind and just let loose.
Lindsay Miller: Be sure to tune in to My Generation. It’s a fantastic new show and thank you so much for dropping by into the studio
Jaime King: Thank you. I’m happy to be here
Lindsay Miller: Thanks, Jaime.
