Jamless Printer In Show at Xerox PARC IDG Nick Barber: Researchers at Xerox PARC have invented a printer that doesn’t jam its modular design can accommodate multiple identical print engines that can all work on the same job simultaneously. If one of them jams its work gets routed to another print engine and the job keeps on printing. Lara Crawford (Technical Staff member, PARC): So for example if you have a printing system with 4 print engines and one of them were to run down then you can still keep going at a ¾ productivity level and while someone do errors we damage the machine. Nick: The printer can’t clear its own paper jams but a user can fix a jam without stopping the machine. They just slide out the core of the effective print engine, remove the paper and slide it back in. Don’t expect to see this work course in the printer room down the hall though you can buy a printer like this today but it’s designed for high volume printing companies not general enterprises.
