Japanese Nuclear Crisis Review

The Friday’s massive earthquake and tsunami severely destroyed northeast Japan and caused great explosions at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant’s reactors, raising the uncontrolled radiation risk. Engineers are using diesel generators for less critical reactors No. 5 and No.6, which helps return to normal the temperature in spent fuel pools of the two reactors. Besides, they have successfully attached a power cable to the No. 1, 2, 5 and 6 reactors in a first step to help cool reactors and stop the spread of radiation as well as expect to restore electricity. If engineers cannot cool the reactor, the last option would be to entomb the plant with concrete and sand with the aim at preventing a catastrophic radiation leak, the method used at Chernobyl in Ukraine in 1986....
