Jodie Foster Talks About The Beaver
Better
Audra Lowe: We all know this two time Oscar Award winner through her more than 70
films. Movie going women everywhere came of age with Jodie Foster.
Well Better caught up with the actress at a photo shoot for the October
cover of More Magazine and that’s where Jody talked about returning to
the screen and the director’s chair for her new movie The Beaver.
Jodie Foster: I love directing it’s an enormous commitment. Emotional, psychological,
physical, it’s the biggest thing you can possibly do so you should be very
careful about what you decide to direct because it will change your life.
Isn’t that direction the direction of that obsession?
And The Beaver is mostly about a man and his dissent into his own hell in
some ways and his attempt to try and revive himself and the way he does
that is by beaver puppet and talking through it and surprisingly it’s not he
high comedy.
Audra Lowe: Mel Gibson co-stars with Jody who she considers a close and loyal friend
for the past 16 years. It was just such a delight to work with him again and
I just get to be spend all that time with him and he delivers such an
enormous huge compelling performance.
Jodie Foster: Yes, yeah Mel is wonderful and when delivers such a enormous huge
compelling performance.
Audra Lowe: As for Mel’s high profile problems the actors told more magazine
exclusively when you love a friend you don’t abandon them when they’re
struggling.
Jodie Foster: You know the reason I picked The Beaver is the reason I take every movie
because of the script. It was a beautiful script to have just a lot of potential
to move me you know and its really the only test that you have as director
is does it move me that moves me even hopefully you can translate that—
with other people.
Audra Lowe: One role that doesn’t move this actress quite as much posing for a
magazine cover?
Jodie Foster: Any actor you ever meet will tell you that it’s very uncomfortable to do
photo shoots. Nobody likes it and you kind of put up with it and I think
mostly just because it’s just one dimension of you it really is just how you
look and nothing else and that’s hard for actors because we’re so used to
kind of being able I don’t know portray a character in a whole way.
Audra Lowe: But she is a big thumbs up when it comes to what’s inside the magazine.
Jodie Foster: Because its’ not just, it’s not like that amazing really. It’s about a time in
your life and it’s my time so.
Audra Lowe: Time out of the spotlight raising two boys Kit and Charlie.
Jodie Foster: My kids are just amazing ages though the other one is 8-1/2 and the other
one is almost 12. They don’t fight with each other quite so much which is
nice. My boys are pretty rare bunches and they could fight a lot but they’re
fighting less with each other and it has been great to kind of slowly get
back into to my life and to have them by my side you know have them
appreciate that and understand that and in some way to be able to be a
little bit of a part of it.
You know I can come home at the end of my day and talk about editing or
in on a Beaver and on fields and there’s actors there they’re able to come
to the set for the first time in my life and usually covered in blood and
carrying a gun and they could never come to set so its been nice to have
them see that other side of me because I think appropriately. They always
just thought of me as being their mom and now they see that I do
something that I’m passioned about and hopefully I can translate that
passion to them.
Audra Lowe: And for Jodie Foster the artist being behind the camera is a place she
would love to stay.
Jodie Foster: The only reason that I continued acting over the years is that I love
movies. Really, I would be just as happy being sound mixer or being a
Director photography. I just like making films and I like telling stories and
whatever vocabulary I need to tell a story if I’ll do that the directing
special you know it’s taking everything that’s inside of you and trying to
communicate that to people and in the role in a whole way.
Audra Lowe: Alright if you guys want to read more about Jodie’s life these days you
can pick up the October issue of More Magazine.
