Kate Hughes, beauty editor, shares her insider tips on wedding make-up

Interviewer: Okay. It is lovely to see you. Thanks for coming in. Kate Hughes: My pleasure. Interviewer: Now. Thanks for all these presents. Is that for me? Kate Hughes: I think you won. Interviewer: Oh thank you. So tell us about all these goodies and how did you get all these? Kate Hughes: Well basically, I’m a beauty editor on two magazines and synched to be a wedding magazine. So people send lots of different stuffs to try and to write about and obviously tell other people about. Interviewer: Is that your job? Kate Hughes: We do get the thick bunch on all the newest great products. Interviewer: That’s lovely. Kate Hughes: It’s great. Interviewer: So these were perfect for brides to be, brides on their wedding day? Kate Hughes: Yeah. I mean, something like this Tocca Tahitian candle, I mean, the women in Tahiti put the Tahitian flowers around their neck in a garland when they’re getting married to give them good luck. So smell that. Interviewer: Oh I can smell it from here. Oh it’s absolutely lovely. Kate Hughes: So maybe on your wedding morning, perfect to burn so you give a lovely sort of fragrance to the room. Interviewer: Yeah. It gets your mind clear. Kate Hughes: Yeah, 100%. Interviewer: Absolutely lovely. I can see, you’ve got some makeup as well for the big day. Kate Hughes: Yes, definitely. But I’d like to start off with this before we get to the makeup because I think leading up to the wedding day, you need to get your body silky and nice and smooth so your creams actually go into the skin a lot better. And this Ila body scrub for energizing and detox, this is great. If you’re going to use this, use this soap like twice a week, by the time—maybe two months before you get married, by the time you get married, your skin will be lovely and smooth and ready for your body moisturizer and stuff like that, that’s gorgeous. Take a smell of that. Interviewer: Also important, if you’re going to put fake tan on because you need to get rid of that dead skin. Kate Hughes: Yeah, 100%. Interviewer: Oh that’s lovely. Kate Hughes: So yeah, that’s nice. That’s totally organic. So yeah, going on to sort of makeup, I mean this Sisley instant perfect is great for makeup base. So if you want your makeup to stay on longer, you know, nothing to sort of like crease or slip, that’s a great makeup base. So I think that’s really important when you’re getting married because you want obviously longevity for your makeup. Interviewer: Right. Kate Hughes: So that’s fantastic. Interviewer: You put that before your cream or is that your cream you put on before? Kate Hughes: Use this instead of the cream. It’s fantastic. That’s a really good one. And I think this is probably one of my favorite products, this Bobbi Brown because it’s tiny enough to fit in your handbag. If you flip open the top, there’s a cream concealer which has got a yellow base so it’s great for sort of dark circles or stuff like that. And if you flip open the bottom, there’s actually a powder in there. Interviewer: Ah, a secret compartment. Kate Hughes: It comes with a tiny little sort of sponge. So basically, that in your handbag, you’re really set for your wedding day. Interviewer: Yeah, perfect. You only want a little handbag. Kate Hughes: Yeah, I mean everyone has tiny little bags. So I think that is a great little product. Sticking with Bobbi Brown, they do a no-smudge mascara. Now waterproof mascara I think for your wedding day is usually campy, it’s usually thick, it’s hard to get off especially after you come back from that wedding night and take it off or wiping it off. So this is no-smudge. So it’s like a normal mascara so it goes on really nicely but it will not smudge. So you know, if you go in swimming with it, it might run a tad but for few tears or getting hot and stuff, that won’t move. So that’s a great product. And again, it’s quite tiny so that will fit in your bag. So then, on to sort of a compress powder. This is pure, it’s a new range and it has a really, really great value. I think this has about ten pounds. So it’s not your scary sort of like design and makeup prices, and that again has got a yellow base which is great for everybody. It takes away the dark and it’s a great little put up. Again, tiny it’s going to fit in your bag. Interviewer: Yeah. Kate Hughes: Another concealer which I think is really great is this Lord & Berry. Lord & Berry comes out about 6.45. I mean, it’s a really, really good value. But that’s like a little pencil so that’s great for a little touchup. You don’t need a brush, you don’t need sort of applicators, you can just wipe that on. Interviewer: You can point those little bits. Kate Hughes: Yeah totally. So that’s a really nice idea. And then on to the lips finally, this is brilliant. This is silhouette. It’s a lip liner and filler. So as you can see, it’s clear. Interviewer: It’s just white, yeah. Kate Hughes: It actually looks white but it’s actually like a clear sort of like pencil. And you put that around as your lip liner and it let you fills all the tiny little lines and it’s universal so you can use that with any other color. Put that all around your lips and that will keep your lipstick on as well. Interviewer: Right. So sometimes your lipstick goes into the lip cracks. Kate Hughes: It does. Well, that will stop that from happening which is great. And then lips. Now this MAC Pro Longwear lip gloss is brilliant. You’ve got your color and you’ve got your gloss on the other side and that really does stay on. And I think, I’ve got to be honest, it’s probably one of the only lip glosses that does actually stay on. It’s fantastic. Interviewer: So you put that on and then dry and then you put that on. Kate Hughes: Yeah, with the gloss side on the top and you don’t need to apply the color. You can actually say, yes it’s fantastic. That some really great product.
