Kevin Rose: How to Overclock a Toothbrush

Kevin: So, I was at the old bed bath to me on the other day, and I needed a new toothbrushes. Figured, I want to buy with those nice once that you know, motorized. Just one here, it goes for $5.99. That is an Oral B, and I saw some other one’s from the Sonicare and, (Voice overlap) I brought this from a friend of mine. This is a $100.00 man! And so I was like, okay, there is going to be someway that we can overclock this thing to get some more juice out of it. Alex: Sure, it is just a toothbrush! Kevin: Let me show you what we have here. Basically, this is one that I have rigged up, I will show you the final product and we have, (Audience Laughing) We have gone to the back here and I have—this is what, let me show—first, this is how it started out. (Toothbrush rotating sound) Alex: Okay, can you here that? Kevin: Yes, I will hold it up to my shirt here so you can just hear it. And this is—let me show you the one with 2 batteries. This is the one with 2 batteries right here, (Toothbrush rotating sound) Kevin: Along with top of there, Alex: Okay, let us through with that, (Toothbrush rotating sound) Kevin: Versus, (Toothbrush rotating sound) (Audience Laughing) Kevin: And the, we have—this one is actually 4 batteries, Alex: 4 batteries? Kevin: Going in this thing, so we have really juice, went out, (Toothbrush rotating sound) (Audience cheering) Kevin: Wow! Alright, listen to this. This is the old one, (Toothbrush rotating sound) Alex: $6.00, (Toothbrush rotating sound) Alex: $100.00! Kevin: Now, look at this. This is a $100.00, well listen how it noise? (Toothbrush rotating sound) Alex: That is a $100.00 Kevin: $8.00. (Toothbrush rotating sound) (Audience Laughing) Kevin: Is not that awesome? Alex: Yes, but would not shred your gums! Kevin: This is true, this true. One thing, I did try this out and it was a little ruff on the gums, (Alex and Audience Laugh) Kevin: So, you might want to go with just the 2 batteries. But, let me show you I did it. We will take Alex’s here, and this is the pink one that Alex likes, (Audience Laughs) Alex: Yes, that is what I have in home. Kevin: And, we will unscrew this here, and you can see there is one battery in there, Alex: Is one’s still going? Kevin: I hear something, the one with (Voice overlap) Alex: No, it is this one. Kevin: Okay, you can take that one out. Alex: Okay. Kevin: Okay. So, we pull—take and pup the battery out here. And you kind of have to—work this like that and hon. Do not, Alex: Sorry, (Voice overlap) Kevin: There we go, there we go. So, it comes out like that and then basically, all you have is little switch here and a positive and negative, and you just run the wires from these, drill a hole at the back side of this little pink thing here. That looks pretty bad. (Laughs) Alex: You have to use the pink one, did not you? Kevin: And, once you do that, you just look into an external battery source here. And, I have double the juice by adding 2 batteries here. So, the little motor that is inside here can actually handle as rated for much higher than just one battery. So, I went and juice that up. Now, here is the really kicker here though, the only thing is that you cannot remove this head on the $6.00 one, Alex: Oh, Kevin: So, you kind of have to check it. But what I have done is I have completely taken one apart. Let me take this one here, and I figure out that if you take this little rod out, and you file the end of this rod down, you can buy the bran heads. For the $100.00 one, (Audience laughs) Kevin: And, you can attach them right on the end this. So, you can basically just use the $100.00 heads, but this are really cheap. And, it turns it into a $100.00 toothbrush. Alex: You have a lot of time I guess. Kevin: Yes. (Laughs) Kevin: I do not know, so I decide, took me over, Alex: Hey! Like I am doing a toothbrush! Kevin: Awe! So, the battery holders, you can get a radio shack along with the other wiring, and the—shrink wrap tubing that you will need. And, that is all there is to wiser a like, (Laughs) Alex: You will also need a lighter, we will explain that and you can show notes. Kevin: No, you show notes. You can use the lighter for it, (Laughs) Kevin: Maybe, that is the reason I built this thing, Alex: Yes, right, (Audience Laughing) Kevin: So, that is all you—(Laughs) And, remember to talk to your dentist, talk to you dentist before you use this on your teeth.
