Kirigami Flowers Decor
Hey everyone. Welcome to Décor It Yourself and welcome spring. After a really long winter, I think we’re all excited for what the new season is going to bring. My sister Lauren was just here visiting for her spring break and while here, she showed me a really cool spring project. So this week, we’re going to make Lauren’s Kirigami flowers.
You can buy origami paper, use regular white or use old magazine pages. Not those magazines. Take a piece of paper and if it’s not already a square, fold it like this and cut off the excess paper. Now you have a square. With the square folded in half diagonally like a taco, use the template provide in a Thread Banger Blog and align the middle fold of the template with the peak of the taco. Fold over one side like this then fold back flat back again on itself to align both edges and make a crease.
Then fold the whole thing over and take the other side of the square and make a new crease aligning with the edge on the bottom. Then fold the next side in and make a crease for the two edges lining up. Now hold it like an ice cream cone and cut off the top from end to end in an arc. There are many ways to cut the petals. This is the step where you would decide what detail you want for the edge of the petal.
Now you’re going to cut inside the petals. Fold the cone in half, so that the edges of one side line up and use your scissors to cut a slit being very careful not to sober your petals. This makes it easier to get your scissors in there. With your scissors in the slit, cut up outside and follow the arc of the top of the petal. Then start cutting down the opposite side but stop before the beginning and the end of where your cut meets.
Now from that middle area of paper, cut a straight line upward into the middle of that arc then round it out at the tip and come back to meet the beginning of that cut. Carefully open up your flower and go and used up some cleaning up with your scissors and voila you’ve learn a fun new technique.
Spin it anyway you want. Attach a bunch of flowers together to make a spring leaf for your front door. You can glue them to a tray add a locker or a seal to make a serving piece or add a tack in the middle of several clustered together to get a three dimensional wall mirror.
We’ll be right back with more origami flowers and some helpful hints to get you through allergy season.
Welcome back. Some other cool flowers I find on the web are, use origami cherry blossoms found on the flirty guide. Instructables make this pop up lotus Kirigami flowers. Add rosebuds to branches I’ve seen in the simply lovely blog post on Disney design. Check out this amazingly complex creation I found at PaperCraftCenter.net and see how gorgeous Andrea Russo stars in the sky of hexagons are.
Along with spring flowers, allergies also come around this time of year. So here is some helpful home hints that will help. Hang some fresh eucalyptus in your shower. The infuse steam from the hot water will soothe respiratory system and clog sinuses. If you have any helpful home tips, leave them in the comment below. I’ll see you next week. Until then remember your nest needs you.
