With more than 250 house fire fatalities in Canada each year, technology companies are developing faster ways to alert people of the fire, no matter where it starts in their home. Bea Broda: A new development I have heard about in wireless technology is that you can now wirelessly interconnect, all of the smoker alarms throughout your house. I am suppose to meet Jim Rotz an expert from Kidde the smoke alarm people. Oh, there he is. He is going to show us an installation of this new wireless technology in this house, come on. Bea Broda: Hey, Jim. Jim Rotz: Hi! Bea. Bea Broda: Nice to meet you. Jim Rotz: Come on inside. Bea Broda: Thank You. Carol: Hi, been expecting you, come on in. Bea Broda: Thank you. So why go wireless? Jim Rotz: Well, study show that you have less than three minutes to escape a fire. Bea Broda: Only three minutes. Jim Rotz: Yes, the wireless technology interconnects all your smoke alarms, so when one sound, they all sound, and this provides release chance for escape. Bea Broda: I see. Okay then who should consider installing a wireless system? Jim: Most home owners don't realize that smoke alarms wear out, every ten years. Bea Broda: Every ten years. Jim: Yes, anyone who means to replace or add smoke alarms without expensive wiring this technology is a great choice. Bea Borda: Makes a lot of sense. I notice that Carol is getting ready to do her installation, and I want to see it. Hey, Carol. Carol: Hey, hi Bea. Bea Borda: How many of these you have in your house. Carol: Oh! I am so excited, I just bought a new wireless smoke alarm system, and we are going to install four in the house today. Female Speaker: The installation process is quick and easy. An entire house can be setup in less than an hour. First, set all the alarms to the same frequency, then pop in the battery, it's that easy especially with the simple instructions. Carol: There we go. Bea Borda: Good job. Okay. I think were beautiful. Carol: Our last one Bea, how exciting. Female Speaker: Once the alarm is on the wall or ceiling, simply push the Test button and your system is ready to be interconnected. Bea Broda: Awesome they are all working. Female Speaker: And did you know that these wireless of alarm have a special feature called Smart Hash, if it sounds, it will let everyone in the house know that there is a fire, only when there is a real fire.
