Strumming 101 Tutorial: Part 5 Steve Rieck: So now that we have talked about some of the basic rhythm patterns that you would see in a typical 4/4 time song, there is another strumming pattern that's not nearly as common but its certainly interesting and it does come up once in a while, and that's 6/8. There is many other different time signatures, but 6/8 is a common one as well. What that really means is that there is going to be six beats per measure and each beat really is effectively an eighth note in rhythm. So what will happen is we will subdivide that into two groupings of three. Rather than just counting one, two, three, four, five, six, we will try to count it, one, two, three, four, five, six, one, two, three, four, five, six. So it has a little accent on the one and the four. Now, if I just strum that in straight eighth notes with all down strums, it would sound like this: one, two, three, four, five, six, one, two, three, four, five, six, one, two, three, four, five, six, one, two, three, four, five, six, one, two, three, four, five, six. So another simple strumming pattern but a really important one to master. So let's take a look at another strumming pattern in 6/8 in the next clip. Kim Richey: Hello there, I am Kim Richey, and I am going to show you how to play a song called, 'I Will Follow'. You are going to play it with the capo on the fourth fret and in C shapes, but its actually in the key of E.
