Tiffany Young: Hi there. Welcome to neophyte.tv, the technology show for the not so giggy. Ben Freedman: And I am Ben Freedman. Today in the show we are going to look at a couple of new speaker systems. Tiffany Young: Do we ever look at anything old? Nothing old huh. Ben Freedman: We are going to look at a couple of three-year old speaker systems that are obsolete. Tiffany Young: Yes, they are actually. (Voice Overlap) We found it a grocery sale, it’s a great deal. Ben Freedman: This is -- first one today is by Logitech and this is the Logitech Pure-fi Anywhere. And these are portable. In fact, before you can plug them in, let me show people just how portable they are. These are really cool. And how these feet stand on the feet. Tiffany Young: Does it have batteries? Ben Freedman: Well, it does. Yes and it fits into the case like this. Tiffany Young: It’s the portability. Ben Freedman: Comes with this case. Tiffany Young: Oh, very cute. Ben Freedman: Yes, that is not in purse size but definitely packable in your bag. Tiffany Young: Okay, I was just in Vegas, I could use this. Because I mean, really do you really like elevator music when you are at the pool trying to relax? I mean, sometimes it’s okay. But you know, if you wanted some good jazz or Nirvana -- Ben Freedman: Feel how like that is. It does come with a recharger. Tiffany Young: Oh, this is really light. Ben Freedman: Yes, ten hours of battery life, they claim. Tiffany Young: Now, when are they going to make this solar? A little solar panels processor, wouldn’t it going to be perfect for Arizona? Ben Freedman: That would be very very cool. Tiffany Young: Targets your iPod. Ben Freedman: You need a large -- and we will try to 01:37 Tiffany Young: There’s a little thing that clicks up and fans out sort of. Ben Freedman: Right. Tiffany Young: Okay,-- Ben Freedman: So this iPod and I am going to pull up something on here so we can -- Tiffany Young: Just keep me on track and thank you. Ben Freedman: Sure no problem. Oh nice, pull up a little bit on music on here. Tiffany Young: Yes, without missing a beat. Ben Freedman: Right, no problem. And we’ll plug this in here and this -- again, your iPod, those invited dock. Tiffany Young: And this is -- this is the new one. Ben Freedman: Yes this is the new 6-gig. Turn this on here. Tiffany Young: 6 gig. Ben Freedman: And anyway this is on battery here. And I will crank it up in a second but again no plugs, not plugged in, completely on battery here. Now it is not the loudest boom box. Okay. Tiffany Young: Now, this doesn’t look like it would be. Ben Freedman: It doesn’t look like it would be but I will crank it up a little bit here with the remote. Tiffany Young: That isn’t bad. Ben Freedman: It’s not bad. It’s definitely a -- it’s not bad. It’s not earth shattering base or anything. Tiffany Young: -- in here. Ben Freedman: It does have a stereo expander ok. Tiffany Young: Okay. Ben Freedman: So the mix extends wider. So here is the normal stereo, do you hear that? Tiffany Young: Yes. Ben Freedman: I will try to expand it. Do you hear the difference. Tiffany Young: Oh I do. Oh, that’s neat. Ben Freedman: Off again. Tiffany Young: Looks like dispersed but. Ben Freedman: Yes, makes it sound wider. So while we’re like this -- again with the charger I thought there is with the iPod in there. Pretty good sound, not earth shattering base or anything like that but ten hours they claim to run just like that. Tiffany Young: Very nice. Cost? Ben Freedman: Cost is 149. Tiffany Young: 149. Ben Freedman: So not terribly expensive, not terribly cheap. It’s right in the middle. Tiffany Young: It does go with all your different iPods, your Nanos something that’s going to be -- Ben Freedman: Yes, your Nanos and pretty much any iPod will fit in there. Nice remote. The remote has more than most remotes. It’s not just -- Tiffany Young: This is charged, your iPod? Ben Freedman: It does when it’s plugged in. Tiffany Young: Okay so it’s plugged in. Ben Freedman: It does when it’s plugged in but when it’s not plugged in, it doesn’t charge. Tiffany Young: Okay, so it’s got a little headset jack out here. Ben Freedman: That’s right. Yes. Tiffany Young: Which I have no idea -- Ben Freedman: That’s a -- was it a headset or was that a line in? That’s a line in/ Tiffany Young: Oh line in. Ben Freedman: -- non-iPod. I think that’s line in. let me check. Tiffany Young: Okay. Ben Freedman: It has sort of line in if you want to put on a non-iPod on it. But 03:59 designed for iPod. Tiffany Young: Right. And you know this is small enough to where you can take it to your restaurants, I mean carry in case. Ben Freedman: Yes, if you want to -- Tiffany Young: Yes, I mean I can bring the whole kit thing. Ben Freedman: That’s great for 04:13 Tiffany Young: Okay, here’s the kind that you haven’t seen yet. How exciting. Ben Freedman: Now, the remote does pretty much everything you can do. It has more than just volume. The remote also lets you go in and select songs, you got some mini-buttons that you can sort of go in here if I hit the mini-button it falls and I can actually go up here up to the menus to choose different things. For instance, go in here, I can go back down to -- let’s go back to menu and I will go down here to podcast for instance and hit select. Time can navigate through here without having to -- it’s not just the volume and the tracks. Tiffany Young: Right. Ben Freedman: You actually navigate through the whole thing. Now, for instance here we are now watching a -- Tiffany Young: I know that song from somewhere. Ben Freedman: It’s neophyte now we’re watching. So you can watch a video. Tiffany Young: Bonus. Ben Freedman: Yes, you watch a video right there. It doesn’t have video out, it doesn’t have a lot of those other things but again you can pop this right out. Tiffany Young: Well, you can just do a video up the top of that so -- Ben Freedman: You can do a video on the top of that. Yes. Tiffany Young: If you have a new cable. Ben Freedman: If you have a new cable. This goes in there like that. This is kind of cool. The charger fits right here. So you don’t have to worry about the place for the charger. Tiffany Young: Great travel. Ben Freedman: Yes. Tiffany Young: Now, I have boom boxes that have had -- actually we reviewed different speakers. This is great for travel. Ben Freedman: Travel like in your luggage. Tiffany Young: Travel in your luggage. Ben Freedman: Yes or your car. Tiffany Young: I would take this -- I would actually take this probably on the plane. Ben Freedman: You took some on the plane? You would annoy everyone else in the plane. Tiffany Young: No you plug in your headset up top. Ben Freedman: Now, why do you need this? Tiffany Young: To hold it up. Ben Freedman: So it’s just an expensive stand? Tiffany Young: Well, pretty much. I mean you can make it -- or like if you don’t want to like while you’re waiting to get on the plane. Ben Freedman: I can see that while you’re waiting. Tiffany Young: You can put that in the corner somewhere Ben Freedman: I see a really nice bathroom, kitchen speaker but although against portable 06:11 but we look at some other speakers like the 06:15 and these other ones. I mean these are boomboxes. They are loud. Tiffany Young: they are heavy too. Ben Freedman: Big, heavy and they take like 20 double. Tiffany Young: I’ve used them and it’s like trying to carry my full stuff, my 16 swimsuits and my 16 changes of outfits and the boom box, it’s overwhelming. So that’s -- Ben Freedman: I mean, one thing that I really like about this is how light it is in itself. Tiffany Young: Yes. Ben Freedman: In itself. For the sound, it’s pretty light. Not the most hi-fi and not the loudest but ten hours of battery or you’re wondering by the way. It has this two -- Tiffany Young: Thank you. I needed the directions. Ben Freedman: So I like it, I -- the sound could be louder and better but you trade that off with the rechargeable battery and the portability I give it a four to five. Tiffany Young: I think it’s a five out of five. I do. Ben Freedman: You can have like it’s a tiller boom? Tiffany Young: No I just -- I mean like I said it comes down to what I would use it for and I would absolutely use it and so that for me, functionality, combination of the go, travel whatever, and the three year old sort of you know distracter, movie or something. Ben Freedman: You get five out five from the three year old vote so that’s -- Tiffany Young: well, it’s a mommy vote, because you know the mommy goes, what can make life easier for five seconds. Right 07:35 Ben Freedman: That is I got a five from Tiffany, four out of five for me, that is nine out of ten for the Logitech Pure-fi Anywhere. Tiffany Young: Logitech continues to make really good products. I do. There’s just something about the products that they are just identify them Ben Freedman: When you got that accessory market you know -- Tiffany Young: Yes, and it’s not for everybody you know. I mean sometimes -- Ben Freedman: I personally, me I’d like to have a bit more boom. Tiffany Young: But you got portability. Ben Freedman: And that is true. Because a lot of speakers even with the batteries you do not, they’re heavy, they are not that portable. I think sound for a portable rechargeable device. Tiffany Young: It’s like an extended cheating kit, like know. That’s good and the compact. Ben Freedman: Alright so that’s the Logitech. And we’ll be right back in just a little bit, stay tuned. Hi there, I am Ben Freedman from neophyte.tv and for the best sound for your podcast or office communications, check out the microphones at 08:44. And we are back at our second spot light this week and this section we are looking in another set of speakers. Kind of a different purpose for these. These are called Audioengine. Audioengine A2. They make an A2 and they make an A5 which is the big one but these are designed for a portable computer but not really portable but I mean they are not battery powered. Tiffany Young: Okay. Ben Freedman: I got it plugged in here. Tiffany Young: Okay. Ben Freedman: The design really for any kind of bookshelf like if you have a laptop at home, because you got this speaker on your laptop. Tiffany Young: Right. Ben Freedman: So you can have this at home and then you stick the laptop between them whenever you’re there and plug into your headphone jack. You can also plug it into an iPod, standard 09:35 jack or they have let me show you on the back here, one of these, they have an RCA jacks as well, so that’s where if you want to plug in your CD player or DVD player for your kids to watch something. Goes out to your receiver. With the power going in, this goes with the speaker and then he would just go to a power knob and then what happened. Tiffany Young: It’s heavy. I mean these are really nice quality. Ben Freedman: Heavy, wood. I mean this weigh a bit. They have a nice isolation pattern. 10:00 takes their sound seriously. Tiffany Young: I like that. Take their sound seriously. Ben Freedman: I just made that out. Tiffany Young: You did? Ben Freedman: That’s not what their official slogan. Tiffany Young: I like that. Ben Freedman: I just say they do. These are nice quality speakers. They are also not cheap, 199 for these ones. Tiffany Young: Well, let’s give it a listen and see if it’s worth 199. Ben Freedman: I am going to plug this into my laptop here. Tiffany Young: I mean, I will put on my listening dollar ears. Ben Freedman: Sort of -- yes, right now. Let’s start this up here okay. Now, we’re going to crank this up a little bit okay so here we go. Tiffany Young: Those are loud. Ben Freedman: They are loud and they have a lot of base. Do you hear the base? Tiffany Young: I do. Ben Freedman: Lots of base.. Tiffany Young: There’s no subwoofer then. The base is built in Ben Freedman: That’s right. So you can get these speakers, two little speakers and subwoofer. It’s no subwoofer required. It’s just these two. So you can feel you know put your hand and you can feel the base. Tiffany Young: that’s very heavy. Ben Freedman: Why did it sound great. Tiffany Young: Holly molly. I can’t believe how loud that sound is Ben Freedman: It comes little. This is like room filling sound. Tiffany Young: Oh you bet it. This is a great place to test speakers because it is such a big room. It’s a huge studio and we got like a two storey room up here you know. Ben Freedman: So here I am up in the laptop. But you can’t just as easily hook up to your iPod, hook it to your TV, it’s got an RCA jack as well. So it’s very easy to hook it into one another. They also come not only white. They come in black. So if you want to -- you know if you’re using an iMac or something and want it white you can. If you got a regular laptop, you know the black one, you can get a black one. Tiffany Young: Except the volume thing and the back 11:59 Ben Freedman: Yes, although you got it set you can use your volume from your computer. Tiffany Young: Of course or remote from your computer. Ben Freedman: Yes, there’s no remote on these. Tiffany Young: No but I mean your computer or -- Ben Freedman: Now, they also have the A5 and the A5 is kind of cool. It’s bigger than these more expensive and more power and also has a -- Tiffany Young: Oh I’m sorry. Ben Freedman: The A5 has a plug on the back an actual outlet like AC outlet, so for instance if you put your iPod back on top -- Tiffany Young: So if it gets really hot with just trying the AC. Ben Freedman: Any -- See what I have to put in here? Do you see what I have to put up in here? Tiffany Young: Baby’s -- Ben Freedman: Like a wall plug and that’s kind of cool because you can put an iPod back on top and plug it in here and you can put in, in like an airport one of the Apple’s network things and -- you know that needs to be plugged in, you put it right into the speaker. Tiffany Young: I see, get you. Ben Freedman: So not I’m using portable -- but not really travel -- Tiffany Young: You should see me try to wire. I do the wiring in our house for all of our electrical stuff; I think it’s got a huge -- Ben Freedman: You wear the pants in the house when it comes to that? Tiffany Young: I got a huge firehouse that was going on like maybe if we plug this one into here and plug this one into. That is very basic and simple. Ben Freedman: It comes with everything you need to hook it up, so it comes with this -- there’s a wire that goes from one to the other. It comes with -- Tiffany Young: How long this is -- so you obviously can set this up -- Ben Freedman: You use more wire if you want to put to put them like a little -- Tiffany Young: The wire is just come undone and you know and screw and then come up and anything. Ben Freedman: But I am going to tell you I think I mean -- I think these are some of the best little speakers I have heard. I give this a five out of five. Tiffany Young: I have not heard better either. Five out of five for me. The sound, even for 199, we’ve seen them both -- we’ve reviewed a lot of speakers that are 399, Ben Freedman: Those are more -- you know the 14:01 are more designed for iPods. What I like about these -- these are great computer speakers. Tiffany Young: They are computer speakers. They are iPod speakers they are your home entertainment systems, room filling speakers, -- Ben Freedman: Well, you can because you can with these two instances, you can hook up to your computer and at the same time have it hook up to your receiver and your DVD players. Tiffany Young: It’s only everything -- wires. Ben Freedman: I mean wires. Tiffany Young: Yes, very nice. Very nice. Ben Freedman: So those are our -- Tiffany Young: Great sound. They took their sound seriously. Ben Freedman: That’s my slogan not theirs. Tiffany Young: I know but it’s a good one. Ben Freedman: I mean -- Tiffany Young: You check that up -- Ben Freedman: 14:36 Tiffany Young: Oh, definitely yes. Ben Freedman: Five out of five for Tiffany, five out of five. Ten out of ten for the Audioengine A2 on a bookshelf or multimedia. Multimedia speakers, that’s probably the best thing to describe it. Tiffany Young: Right. And I mean the sound quality absolutely tells it about almost anything I heard with the size and the price is absolutely. Ben Freedman: That’s all the time we have for the show this week. Just visit our website www.neo-fight.tv and leave us some comments. Leave us some comments with these speakers, if you like them, if you don’t like them, you going to buy one. Tiffany Young: Are we crazy? Yes. Are they not that great? No they really are but -- Ben Freedman: And if we hope to see you here again next week, right? Tiffany Young: Yup, absolutely and anything you like to see in the show, let us know. Ben Freedman: Send it right along. Tiffany Young: Send it right along and yes, -- Ben Freedman: That’s right. And -- for the next 30 second, take a look at this.
