Milk and Anemia

Martin D. Fried MD discusses the connection between milk and anemia.

Male Speaker: The year age one a lot of parents still think their kid needs four and some six and then they worry about a thing called anemic. They don't realize milk is devoid of iron. So drinking only milk, the kid's going to become iron deficient and is a danger brain development situations like that. Dr. Martin D. Fried: And also this microbe micro hemolytic anemia associated with the cow milk protein where it causes little bit of bleeding in GI track which makes them even more iron deficient from just having milk that's why you need well balanced. Male Speaker: I always told parents the milk that we use is designed for baby calf, we are human beings. Dr. Martin D. Fried: Exactly. Male Speaker: So sort of violating a little bit of Mother Nature but, most parents are going to breast feed to till the age of two. Dr. Martin D. Fried: Right. Male Speaker: Most parents breast feed for likely six months to a year. Dr. Martin D. Fried: Right, but if you look at cows once the calf is weaned then they're all grazing eating grass. Male Speaker: That's pretty quick, sure. Dr. Martin D. Fried: Yeah and it's just less than six months. So, I feel that once you that milk isn't necessarily, cow's milk is not necessary an essential part.
