Ken Dolan: So you probably know what’s this what I’m going to ask now, trivia time, are you ready?
Daria Dolan: Yes.
Ken Dolan: What is the second busiest month for weddings? June is number one like big who doesn’t know that, but number two is?
Daria Dolan: September.
Ken Dolan: Okay, let’s see into that trivia contest. We’re talking about wedding gifts that keep on giving. I want to give you a definition you’ll love this. According to Peggy Post—
Daria Dolan: Is it really in there? They are a little quick thing here. So if you’re thinking planning again of getting married. Plan any other month but those two because it will cost you the most, June and September.
Ken Dolan: Alright, okay.
Daria Dolan: Okay.
Ken Dolan: Peggy Post, I’m guessing is the daughter of Emily Post. She defines a wedding gift. We’re talking about wedding gifts that keep on giving it if you don’t have a lot of money, a tangible representation of love and support, a generous offering to help married couples get a head start in their lives together.
Daria Dolan: That’s the wedding gift.
Ken Dolan: Hold on, okay. Well, I’m going to tell you, never has more trouble happened than in early in a marriage than relating to money problems. Now, let’s be very clear about this. The number one wedding gift is a whole sack of cash to the bride and groom. Okay, we know we get it. Who doesn’t like getting money? However, if money is a little tight around your house as it is around zillion homes around America and you still want something that they are really, really be helpful to them in their marriage. No other toaster. None of the chess board and please not other set of steak knives, some money gifts.
Daria Dolan: Exactly, but there are ways that you can do with for example, if you’re on a very tight budget, get them something like Microsoft money plus software.
Ken Dolan: It’s really good.
Daria Dolan: This will help them in their early days of paying their bills and writing checks and managing their investment.
Ken Dolan: For portfolio or even budgeting.
Daria Dolan: And even budgeting exactly and it’s a great gift and it won’t break the bank for you.
Ken Dolan: Yeah, it’s around $50.00. Is it the price of the century? The gift of the century, no, but it’s very thoughtful. Also, an organizer. I’m going to tell you there are so many papers flying around marriages insurance policies and self-storage numbers and licenses and stuff and organizer. A beautiful organizer is a very, very nice and appropriate gift.
Daria Dolan: If you have other friends who are attending the wedding and that all of you sort to have tight wallet.
Ken Dolan: A little short.
Daria Dolan: Pool a money gift among a whole group of you. It will be a much larger gift than any if you could individually give and it should certainly be well appreciated by the couple.
Ken Dolan: Tremendous. Daria and I are going to get married again because our son-in-law Keith who is spectacular engineer and great in photos were giving them all of our photos so they have put them all in a CD that will be a great wedding gift for us.
Daria Dolan: Yeah, what Ken basically saying is, offer your skills as a gift. If you’re a carpenter offer to build them something. If you’re a painter offer to paint their house for them.
Ken Dolan: I love that.
Daria Dolan: Or if you’re an artist type painter.
Ken Dolan: Something for the apartment.
Daria Dolan: Do a painting for them. Exactly, offer whatever your skill is maybe you’re a money manager offer them portfolio planning for free.
Ken Dolan: Whatever maybe. And last but not the least.
Daria Dolan: Of course if you are a portfolio manager you should be able to give a good money gift.
Ken Dolan: Thanks Daria, and last but not the least who can never get mad for getting a nice savings bank, so the bottom line is, I don’t want to call a wedding gift on the shoe string because a lot of the things we talked about are very, very thoughtful. Don’t go into debt for anybody’s wedding gift. Okay.
Daria Dolan: No.
Ken Dolan: Alright.
