My Book 500 GB External HD - Unboxing

Hey guys, John here. I had a couple request to unbox my new external hard drive the My Book, especially user Mousse Hair99, subscriber might really want to see it. So I’m going to do it, but bare with me, I didn’t want to set up my camera and stuff. So I’m going to try it with the eye sight, see how it works, might not be the best but we’ll give it whirl. Anyway, like I showed you earlier, this is My Book. I bought it from Cosco which for those of you that don’t know, it’s a warehouse sort of something involve to a large purchases and they happen to have this My Book drive, 500 gigabytes with USB 2.0 and FireWire 400 and it was $149.00 US. That was a pretty good deal for 500 gigs of storage. It’s going to be perfect for time machine, it’s the reason that I got it. . So let’s go ahead on the box. Alright, so that’s the plastic, I think if you buy it from somewhere other than Cosco, it won’t come in this giant box. I don’t know that for sure. Sorry, that was a little louder than expected. Alright, here it is the My Book, it says stuff that’s included but I guess we’ll see it so I can go ahead and read it for you. Compatibility, Windows Vista, XP 200, Mac OS 10.3 or higher, 500 GB, they’re saying you can store up to 142,000 photos, 38 hours on movies, 125,000 songs. It’s actually pretty impressive. Let’s go ahead and open this bad boy out, it’s pretty decent size. So unlike my 160 little passport drive, this one looks like it has a power supply, but we’ll go through everything here. Take off packaging. It’s actually not that big, I thought bigger than cellphone. I’ll give you guys a comparison here in a minute so I can get down the plastic. It’s always fun to open up new things here. Alright, this is it, not terribly big, can see it here. This is it, the front of it looks like that’s power button that goes in. On the back, I think there’s power, USB and there’s two FireWire cables on the way, there are two FireWire cables. I don’t why there’ll be two but you know there are again, there is the USB and two FireWire. I think there is a lock there to on the power. That’s kind of how I think it is. Let me show you guys something I’m sure you’re all familiar with, the iPhone to give you a comparison, kind of on size and thickness stuff. I could give you a sign of how big it is. It’s not thin or small, it’s not giant though either that I can set it right behind my MacBook Pro and I probably won’t notice it. See what else that came with here, power brick, doesn’t look that big so it’s almost like a cellphone power brick with a—that type of connection. I don’t know if it is propriety or not but there it is. A USB cable, standard USB cable and they gave you a —what did they gave me? a FireWire 400 cable which is nice, so I don’t have to use another one. Alright guys, that’s it. My Book 500 also known as My Time Machine drive, 500 gig should be the last hardware I need to buy for a while, I’m assuming. Anyway guys thanks for watching. As quick heads up though to answer a question, some people were wondering if computers that they bought tomorrow are going to be preinstalled Leopard. They’re not and the answer is no. They’re not going to be preinstalled with Leopard. You’ll keep them sending in, send in a coupon, I think it pay 10 bucks for shipping and they’ll send you a free copy. And you’ll got to wait for a couple of weeks for these computers to get out. So I recommend waiting, they may send out some updated MacBooks with leopard or maybe a MacBook slim and who knows, but if you waited this long, less than a couple of weeks.
