New York Yankees Steak at the New York Yankees Stadium
Rhiannon Ally: Baseball season is in full swing. For most Yankee fans, nothing
beats watching the team at the ballpark. Lesly headed out to the
stadium to show us a gourmet way to indulge in the game and your
senses in today’s Better Bites.
Lesly Nagy: I’m at Yankee Stadium and normally when you’re hungry here,
you just grab some ballpark food. But we’re going to head inside
Gate Six at NYY Steak for a whole different experience. Let’s
check it out.
Jacques Lamour: It’s a new stadium, it’s a new restaurant, and it’s a new error in
fine dining.
Lesly Nagy: NYY Steak offers juicy steaks on the menu of course, but is the
ambience, famous clientele and Yankee memorabilia that hit home
in this upscale stadium restaurant.
What’s your signature dish here?
Jacques Lamour: We have a number of signature dishes, but I think one that sort of
stands out is our long bone rib eye that we—actually, it’s a 24-
ounce long bone rib eye that we actually carve your initial senses.
Lesly Nagy: And, does one person suppose to eat all that?
Jacques Lamour: Absolutely.
Robert Gelman: Here, we do a lot more than just steak. All of the steak is our
signature. This particular dish is a lobster and yolky dish with a
little bit of twist. Something unusual is that we actually toss in
peeled grapes at the end along with the main lobster meat and fresh
potato and yolky and roasted shitake mushrooms.
Lesly Nagy: It does sound wonderful. I’d love to see you make it.
Nothing like trimming up the heat for baseball season.
Robert Gelman: And that’s going to form sort of the flavor base for our cream
sauce.
Another feature in NYY Steak is that all of our plate ware has the
Yankee pinstripe around it and the legendary Yankee numbers on
them, so this one is number five for the Great Joe DiMaggio, the
Yankee Clipper.
Lesly Nagy: Your favorite, huh?
Robert Gelman: That’s right, my very favorite.
Lesly Nagy: Plus celebrities who frequent the place are given their very own
personalized knife.
Robert Gelman: We have the Yogi Bears of the world, the Rudy Giuliani’s, the
Michael Bloomberg’s, the Kate Hudson’s, the Matt Bouldin’s, we
have a number of celebrities. We also have a lot of the ball players,
which had been here, the Derek Jeter’s, the Alex Rodriguez’s of
the world.
Lesly Nagy: Although baseball attire is fine, there is one rule, hats must come
off.
Jacques Lamour: You know, last year, we had 26 wines by the glass that we offered.
And this year, we have 27, do you know why that is?
Lesly Nagy: No.
Jacques Lamour: Because the Yankees won 27 championships, and so this season,
we’re offering 27 wines by the glass.
Lesly Nagy: Or you could try their signature drink.
Female: Your Yankee Tini.
Lesly Nagy: Oh, my Yankee Tini, thank you. And as you can see, I have my
steak all personalized, too, just for us, and I’m going to get going
on this. For Better, I’m Lesly.
Rhiannon Ally: Lesly, that Yankee Tini looks delicious. Where’s mine? NYY
Steak is open year around. They also host monthly comedy clubs,
wine tasting, and even jazz nights. I guess baseball can be a great
date night, too.
