Nokia N80 - Review
This is Phone Arena video review of the multi-media slider Nokia N80, the 3G smart phone with 3-mega pixel camera and Wi-Fi running and can soon be an operating system.
It's pretty thick for a slider phone but feels comfortably in the hand and you can operate it one finger only although it lacks any spring mechanism to assist you as it moves very smoothly and gently.
The keypad features large keys with excellent tactile response. The backlit is simple but the light censor turns the numeric keypad slide off to save battery power.
Above the keypad is the display which has a resolution of 352x416 pixels cramped in only 2.2-inches which have the displayed images look very detailed in addition to the high contrast and saturated colors.
On the left side is just the mini SD slot while the camera shutter key is located on the right side. The camera dominates the back with respectful LED flash and the switch for landscape in macro mode which we found hard to use because of its tiny size.
The 3-mega pixel resolution of the camera sound good on paper but it lacks auto-focus and it doesn’t have the trendy camera size lens used in the N73 and N90 models.
Closing with the slider can be done with one hand but you have to touch the display or better, use your other hand to slide it down. We can say that the construction is solid if you don’t pay too much attention to the fact that the upper slider slightly wobbles horizontally.
The software is a standard one for Cymbian operating system. You have the comfortable act of investment similar to the one in pocket PC phones with shortcuts to various applications and information and main menu displayed in 3x4 grids of icons or a list.
The phonebook is the best you can expect from the model’s smart phone. If we don’t count the ridiculous as small of caller ID images which are pretty much useless. Writing a new text message is easy with T9 but not as fast as with real QWERTY keyboard.
Also, you can easily check your e-mail and as you can see; our mailbox is already full of spam. What we want about the N80 is the Wi-Fi which we use for internet connection at the moment.
Surfing the net on N80’s is also a pleasure as you have a rear browser that shows you the page the way we are used to full view of it as we all as we like to call desktop view.
You can move to Phone Arena and read what you need or type the RSS reader address for faster access to the latest information but multi-media is where are the N-series are for and the music there has small inconvenient icons but the music libraries sorts all the songs by artist or album and you can see the most played track list as well.
The camera interface is in landscape mode and has large view finder but the images is taken—but it suffer form the lack of auto-focus and are not as good as with other 3- megapixel cameras we have tested.
Overall, the N80 offers a lot of functionality in a stylish slider design and it’s definitely not the smallest phone but one of the best looking smart phones in the market.
