Hi, my name is Steve from Mastercraft Painting in San Diego.
We’re just about finally to replace and what we’ve all been waiting for and that’s the actual application of paint. Today we’re going to be using hydraulics sprayer and back rolling the paint into the surface. Again we’re using a high quality premium acrylic flat finish on the stucco. When you’re using a hydraulic sprayer like this, it’s critical, make sure to keep your fingers away from the gun itself. The pressure is actually high enough where you can actually inject the paint into your skin, it can get into your blood, causing severe problems. So be very careful with the spray guns.
So again like I’ve showed you before in the patching phase, all the stucco patch needs to be properly primed before we put this finish on there for it to stick. So we use a 100% acrylic and a high quality primer to prime all the patches prior to applying the finished coats.
It’s not necessary to prime the whole house if the stucco is already have been painted before, just go straight over that, a nice clean sound surface.
So the back rolling process is basically, we’re going to spray the paint under the surface, use a roller, just a regular paint roller to push the paint into the holes to provide to fill up all the holes and provide a nice uniformed finish.
Like on a day like today where it’s a little bit windy, you want to make sure because the spray is going to travel in the air a little bit, you want to make sure that everything is covered up properly and there’s no car in the close parks similar that you could overspray or else you could have some problems.
Generally speaking, the distance that you want to hold the gun from the surface is about 12 inches. Sometimes that may be a little bit less or a little bit more, depending on exactly what you’re shooting, but generally speaking about 12 inches from the surface.
So after the stucco is done we’re going to come back, and we’ll start brushing or rolling the trim and we’re going to show you. We have a two gallons set up with mini roller and a brush and we’re going to start brushing and rolling the finish on the facia. We’ve already got one coat of primer on it, now we’re going to apply two coats of semi-gloss, 100% acrylic done average material.
So one of the common mistakes that I see in a painting contactor is people use the wrong type of material. Basically there’s two types of finishes is a water base, a water-borne acrylic paint and there’s an oil base.
This particular home was painted with an oil-based paint and acrylic paint is actually going to last a little bit longer because it has better expansion and contraction characteristics. So we chose to put a 100% acrylic on this house.
So, here we are at the completion of the job. I’m Steve from Mastercraft Painting and we’ve gone taking you through the whole process from picking your colors to proper wood repair and replacement, protecting of surfaces so it won’t get paint and the application of paint.
