Philly Swirl Cereal Conez Review
Ice cream cones with cereal marshmallows on top? Will they be magically delicious?
We’ll find out in this episode of Freezer Burns.
Hi! I’m Greg, the Frozen Food Master and you’re joining me as I eat my way through the
freezer aisle one box at a time. Today, I have a very special review. It is of this brand new
from Philly Swirl Cereal Conez with a “z” because you know they’re hardcore, $2.63 for
this box.
Let me just show you this box because I want you to just soak it all in. This is going to be
a different type of review. We’re not going to have our special segments because it’s just
an ice cream cone but this warranted more than just a one-word review. I’m going to
show you everything about this.
So, $2.63 for this box, this is a four-pack. On the outside, cereal cone with marshmallows
from your favorite cereal, they’re kind of taking some liberties here telling me what my
favorite cereal is. Personally, it’s Cracklin' Oat Bran. But I really dig marshmallows in
cereal and this looks like lucky charms-type marshmallows, magically delicious. On the
inside, “Chocolate marshmallow swirl ice cream or vanilla ice cream in a cone with
magical marshmallows.”
I want to see what this is all about. Let’s open up this box and see what we got. Philly
Swirl, typically in the past I’ve reviewed stuff from Philly Swirl and it’s been like more
like Italian water ice. Like anyone have a Rita’s nearby? It’s kind of like that. But they’re
kind of branching out here and they’re going kind of novelty, “Cereal Conez” with a “z”
or “Cereal Conez.” Maybe I’m just pronouncing it.
Okay, here we go. White paper; taking this off like this and here is what we got inside,
you see that? Wow! I’m going to take one of these off just to see. Okay first off, they’re
marshmallows all right but the best thing I like about marshmallows in cereal is that
they’re hard. Before you put the milk in, they’re super hard. These are very squishy, very
squishy. And they don’t really taste much of anything. They are certainly colorful.
They’re stuck on there, that’s always nice.
I am going to peel back this film here and see what we got. Let’s expose it for all that it
is. Okay, this must be the “swirl.” Yes, it is. This is the “swirl version.” Here’s what we
got. You see that? A full size sugar cone, not a lot of ice cream on top, maybe they
equivalent of like half a scoop of ice cream and maybe 20 to 25 colorful marshmallows
here, all pastel colors, very Easter-like. We got the chocolate and the vanilla stripes of the
ice cream and we got some fudge around it, not a whole lot, just enough to kind of keep
all those toppings on the top of this cone. Let’s see how this taste.
There it is; that gritty, artificial marshmallow taste that you come to love when you were
a kid, you still love it as an adult. Be honest. I love it as an adult. I’m sure you do too. I’m
not sure that this is really that interesting, to be honest. I’m going to try to work my way
down and get to the cone. Anyway, I’ll tell you what I think about this.
Okay, there you go. Bit that cone off. There is fudge line on the inside, that’s a plus but
here is where I’m confused, I don’t know who the demographic is for this type of
product. Kids these days, I don’t know, are they excited? I don’t have my kids eat this
type of cereal but do they get as excited about this type of marshmallows in their cereal
as much as we did as a kid? I know that what attracted me to this product is the novelty.
“Oh my God! That’s pretty cool like cereal! Ha, ha, ha” you know like the cereal that I
had when I was kid. The novelty of that on top of an ice cream cone is pure gold, right?
Not that expensive but the taste, the consistency of this marshmallow is not what you
remembered. The taste is close. The color, really it’s just color and I’m sorry, these were
supposed to be magical marshmallows. They look like aquarium gravel just a little
bigger. That’s all it is. There is nothing magical about a little like fake brick of baby blue,
squishy marshmallow. So, I’m not quite sure where they’re going with this. Novelty
wise, yeah absolutely and certainly for the price under $3.00 for this box, certainly for the
price, “not bad.” I’m not sure; it’s okay.
This is the Philly Swirl Cereal Cones, four of them in the box, brand new. $2.63 for this
box, decent value for the price, way more of a novelty, I don’t know if it’s appealing to
people my age or the younger generation, either way, you’re not going to bite into it and
say, “This is disgusting. I’m going to throw it out” but at the same time, it doesn’t pay off
the novelty much as I had hoped. I’d hoped that those marshmallows would truly be
magical and they certainly were not. I give this a two and a half star.
Question of the Day; “What was your favorite cereal as a kid?” Leave that in the
Comment section, Question of the Day. As always, I’m your host Greg, the Frozen Food
Master. This has been another review of Freezer Burns. Thanks for watching and I’ll see
you next time.
