Walt Zeltner: It's fun. It's challenging. Jennifer Matthews: An enlarged prostate made Walt Zeltner's golf game even more challenging. Walt Zeltner: It made the positioning of the restrooms kind of urgent sometimes. Jennifer Matthews: For years, walt lived with frequent and urgent urination problems. A severe bladder infection finally sent him to the doctor. Dr. Paul Arnold: The normal prostate is about the size of a walnut. And the prostate can grow very large. It can grow as big as a baseball. Jennifer Matthews: Doctor Paul Arnold suggested a new laser treatment for Walt. Dr. Paul Arnold: A laser is nothing more than high intense light source. Jennifer Matthews: The doctor feeds a laser tip through the urethra into the prostate using a thin tube. The laser energy vaporizes the excess tissue. Dr. Paul Arnold: So you're shining a light on the prostatic tissue, which vaporizes the tissue, virtually leaving it bloodless. Jennifer Matthews: The procedure spares the patient from painful surgery that can potentially cause incontinence and excessive bleeding. Since there's no swelling, many patients don't go home with a catheter. Dr. Paul Arnold: Fifty percent of men, we can get the catheter out the same day and go home that day. Jennifer Matthews: It's been a week since Walt had the procedure and he's already back on course. This is Jennifer Matthews reporting.
