Red O Restaurant - Hollyscoop Hot Spot Nora Gasparian: Hey, guys this is Nora from Hollyscoop.com. Now you know how much I love foods so I cannot pass up the opportunity to hit up Hollywood’s newest hot spot Red O Restaurant by Rick Bayless. And have my very own fiesta. Let’s go inside. We made a special dish. Can you tell me about the dish I ate -- made, ate? Male: So paste are made out of the same dough that used to make corn tortillas that they’re made into a boat shapes and then they crisp fried them and those are top with plantains, the cooking bananas. They have also been cooked until they’re completely soft and sweet, and then we top them with a little bit of creama, Mexican crema which is more like French creme fresh and a little queso fresco, they’re fresh cheese and super delicious. And that is our Plantain --. Nora Gasparian: Oh, it’s amazing. This is a very exciting day for you. Tell me about your book. Rick Bayless: I have a new book. This is actually my seventh book. So I’m not -- this is my first time around this block but it’s very exciting to me because it’s really the heart of why I love Mexico so much. It’s about fiestas. It’s called Fiesta at Rick’s and it’s really the kind of parties that I threw up on my own home. Food really has the potential of being the thing that launches us into a really great time. You get a group of people you like around the table. You give them some great food, something beautiful to drink, and the next thing you know they’re having a great time. Nora Gasparian: You started in Chicago, am I correct? Rick Bayless: Yes, I’ve had restaurants in Chicago for 23 years. Nora Gasparian: And what made you come out to L.A. finally? Rick Bayless: I was invited to come out here and you know I lived here actually 30 years ago. Nora Gasparian: Charlize Theron has been here, Demi Moore been here, Sandra Bullock was here just like a week ago. Rick Bayless: Oh, yeah, yeah, exactly, exactly. Nora Gasparian: That’s amazing and they keep coming back. So clearly you’re doing something right. Rick Bayless: Right. Well, and people in the food community have come here and I’m really very a thrilled and honored about that. Wolfgang Parker was here the other day. Bobby Flay has been here several times, so it’s really nice to know. I mean all these people were all have been to my restaurants in Chicago. The design of this place -- Nora Gasparian: Amazing! Rick Bayless: --it’s just stunning. It’s just really stunning. I mean we’ve just won an amazing award that from as require for best design restaurant of the year as well as one of the top ten new restaurants in the country. Nora Gasparian: --yes it’s definitely is hot spot and the ambience and the food, everything is amazing. Rick Bayless: Well, thank you very, very much. Nora Gasparian: Congratulations. Rick Bayless: Everything that we do here is made on premise. Nora Gasparian: And it was amazing. I mean I added the parsley on top. I have to admit. It’s the cilantro.
