From dramas to comedies, Chris Rock to Jamie Foxx --our next guest is an actress that has proven she can roll with the big boys. Regina is here today talking about her exciting, and very busy career and motherhood.

Regina King Interview Better Audra: It’s from dramas to comedy, Chris Rock to Jamie Foxx our next guest is an actress who proven that she can really role with the big boys time and time again, you’ve seen her in everything from Ms. Congeniality 2, Jerry Maguire, to 24 and now the hit show Southland. Regina King is a force to be reckoned with, take a look. [Clips] And Regina is here today talking about her exciting and yet very busy career in film TV and motherhood. You’re doing it all baby, good to have you here. Regina: Good to be here. Audra: So I’ve seen you 2/7 obviously Boy’s in the Hood Jerry Maguire. We’re talking about all these movies and now we see you on Southland is there one particular project that you feel like just really just blue you out of the box as far as your popularity and range? Regina: No, I can’t narrow it down to 1 particular project. I think that there were different. There were project that happened to the certain time in my life to kind of change the direction or the exposure definitely boy’s and girls in the hood first you know kind off allowed the audience to know that oh she can actually act. She’s more than just that little girl. Audra: Yeah. Regina: And then from there Jerry Maguire I think really introduced me to an audience that was broader than just you know an African-American audience and then also I think Ray show just more…. Audra: Yeah you got a lot of roles. Regina: Yeah. Audra: And then with Soutland I love, love, love, love can I add one more love that show to death. Not only the way that it’s produced the way it’s shot but whether your characters you guys are so real and I read that the plots are actually taken from real stories, news events, real crimes is that true? Regina: Yeah sometimes they are. I mean they’re not playing out exactly how they did in real life but you know some of the story points are not taking out of only situations that have taken place in L.A. but across the nation because law enforcement is a really interesting organization no matter where you go. Audra: Exactly and you play detective Lydia Adams on the show. She is no joke. She can handle any situation that you put in to. Does it make you feel more afraid of living day-to-day life seeing that the back story or does it make you feel more prepared? Regina: Actually more prepared. Audra: Really? Regina: I mean we’ve done so much preparation when it comes to these roles. Weapons training, classroom work, then we’ve gone to boot camp we’ve gone to the police academy. Have done weapons training at the Police Academy so we’ve been kind of versed on command presence and what officers look for when they’re checking out suspects or potential suspects and what suspects or criminals are for whey they’re looking at people that, that’s a cop they’re not in uniform but I can tell it’s a cop. Audra: Exactly. Spot them a mile away. See for some reason I really want your character Lydia to have a love interest but I realize everybody on the show has some drama with their wife, their husband, their girlfriend. Regina: I do to. Audra: What’s going on there? Regina: You know that’s the part right now, that’s part of you know her story and I think that’s very common for a lot of career women that are you know in the age rage of 35 to 45 and they have been so career drive for so long and then they look up and they haven’t fostered any relationships and they find themselves like… Audra: Yeah it’s really nice you know. Regina: It’s really nice. Audra: And you have your new movie coming out with Forest Whitaker too. Is it called the Family Wedding? Regina: Our Family Wedding. Audra: Okay tell me about that? Regina: It’s about a Latin family, a latino family and black family who Forest’s son is Lance Gross and he meets America Ferrera and they decide to get married but they haven’t told their parents. Audra: A little bit of drama. Regina: Yeah a little bit of drama and Forest and Carlos Mencia’s character they have met each other prior to finding out that their kids are getting married and just things don’t workout right and I’m like the voice of reason and I’m the friend that’s like you know let me love each other, let them have love yeah. Audra: You’re doing a great job with every single thing that you touch, I’m so happy for you, thank you so much for stopping by and congratulations on Southland too. Regina: Thank you.
