Rocking with Winamp - #7 - Tweaking Winamp - Part 1

What's the point of having a media player if you can't have it look and feel the way you want it to? Winamp gives you loads of user configurable options so you can make it your own. It's easy to make Winamp look and act the way you want.

Hi, this is Mike Callahan, Dr. File Finder. Welcome back to part seven of our special ten-part series on Winamp Media Player. But then we’ll look at options since Winamp has quite a few, I’ll do it two parts. So click on Options, skip over skins because I’m going to cover that separately. Now visualization is where you can get color and movement that responds to music. And in Winamp it’s controlled with a plug-in, so you can select the plug-in and figure it and then start or stop it. You can also figure the graphic equalizer, you can see here I have enabled. But I like the fact that you can save your pre-sets and then load them. And if you get tired on certain one, you can delete them. You can also determine whether you want the timer to show the time elapsed or the time that’s remaining in the song. Another thing you could determine is whether you want Winamp to always be on top of other programs. Under appearance, you can configure some things about how Winamp looks when it’s on the screen, whether the visualizer has a reflection, the timer has a reflection and so on. Now the song ticker which is up here, you can have a modern one which is what I have. You can have the classic one or you can disable it all together. Window sizing lets you determine different aspects of the window size, for example like collapsing the window to the top. These are personal preferences. And then under notifications, you can determine whether you want to have notification shown always, never shown, always shown when it’s minimized, the location that they’re shown, if you want to disable it when you’re in full screen mode and so on.
