Host: On my romance quest chocolate is a crucial part of the journey. I’m with the owner of Chuao Chocolatier Michael Antonorsi at his factory. His skill with chocolate makes him a true romance guru. So what’s it about chocolate, why is it such a romantic thing? Michael Antonorsi: Well you know chocolate used to be considered more as a candy. So it was more you know something that you really don’t want to get into too much and tight calories and all that. But now chocolate has become a gourmet food. So it has been reclaimed by the adults and now you have different attributes to chocolates that become more an adult indulgence. You can do a lot of playing with chocolates. So chocolate is really becoming a playground for adults. That’s a passion fruit caramel heart. Host: Oh my gosh! Michael Antonorsi: Do I have your heart now? Host: You have my heart yes you do. Do you believe that chocolate is an aphrodisiac? Michael Antonorsi: I absolutely believe so. I think chocolates makes you feels good and that’s a starting point. So if you are already feeling good anything from there can only get better. It also has some chemicals that release some endorphins in your body. It has theobromine which is sort of the caffeine it sort make you feel a little more awake and alert. It has sugar which also helps you in that sense. Chocolates melts at body temperature, it suppose to melt at body temperature, if it doesn’t it’s a bad chocolate. So if you want t have this chocolate that melts in your mouth for a while and when it melts it doesn’t really go fast it cannot coat your mouth, its thick, its rich almost overpowering so you are almost high jacked in the whole chocolate experience. Host: I asked why women in particular seem to be attracted to it. Michael Antonorsi: Women are not afraid of saying I have a personal relationship with the chocolate you know. There is women that come to our stores and they are totally connected with the particular type of chocolate and they almost say that it’s the best option at home. Host: What can guys do to make chocolate a more personal loving gift? Michael Antonorsi: Just slow down. Take it easy. Chocolate has to be consumed with time. It’s not just a gift over the counter, you know hey sorry honey boom I’m late. It’s something that you really want to share. You want to read about it. You put it in half and share the half so you’re getting really close physically. It is something that you want to romance around. Just open up the scope of time. You're not going to the movie, not going to the theatre, not going to eat. Host: So it’s more about intimacy. Michael Antonorsi: Intimacy together. Host: Just to make sure chocolate was romantic I had to have one more piece. Michael Antonorsi: So that a cabernet caramel with pasilla chili and cayenne pepper and raisins and it is smoky but it is going to heat up your throat, so I called it a chocolate with a sensorial experience. So it’s not only the flavor but you actually take part of the whole thing. You’re heating up on your throat slightly. Host: I can feel it. Michael Antonorsi: So it’s exciting. Host: If my husband came home with this— Michael Antonorsi: Yeah, I know that I would add and pour a little cold wine. You know chocolate is the best way to get instant legal pleasure.
