Shaving Tools and Equipment monkeysee.com See how the experts do it. Hi I’m Pirooz co-founder of the Grooming Lounge. Today I’m going to show you how to achieve the perfect shave. In this segment I’m going to teach you about some tools and products that are going to help you achieve a great shave each and every morning. Now you might say, “well you’ve already talked about the products so you you’ve already talked about the solutions that you use in the beginning but we’re going to do a quick rewind. I’m going to go through the first four products we use to just give you a brief description of them one more time and then I’m going to show you some really cool tools and some other products that could be beneficial to you. We’re going to start out with our face wash. As I’ve said in the beginning of the shave, is the key to a great shave comes in preparation. Preparation comes in the form washing and cleansing and by washing and cleansing remember what I said. You don’t want to use the same drying soap that you use to wash other body parts and you don’t to use soap, you want to use a targeted cleansing. So this product which is a face wash a targeted face wash could be used on any skin type so it’s a very good basic skin care product to get into. The next product we’re going to talk about is the shave oil. Now, this is the dream product, this is the mac daddy of all products. Now if you remember the first thing I applied on to my beard was a shave oil. The shave oil as I’ve said gives you; perfect slit that oxidizes so it helps lifts up the hairs and it gives me a smooth surface to shave with so there’s no razor drag and it prevents me from cutting myself. It let’s you see what you’re shaving clearly. Then comes shave cream, now this is a low foaming shave cream, what’s with all the foam when it’s not touching your face and it’s not even allowing your razor to touch your skin? We recommend a low foaming moisturizing shave cream so I highly recommend using non-foaming shave cream. Then last but not least an after shave balm, most of aftershave balms contain alcohol or are extensions of fragrance lines, you want an aftershave that’s moisturizing and soothing and helps you close down you pores. Now we’re going to talk to you about some of the other solutions that can help balance out the mug. You want to get yourself a basic face scrub, what this does it helps you rejuvenate the cells by removing all the dead skin and it’s also great for those of you who get ingrown hairs. Next is a toner. The toner helps and it’s actually against cell damage. It helps eliminate dirt and grime while balancing out your mug. Next I’m going to talk to you about a double wire stand. Now you may ask what is a double wire. Well double wire stand holds the brush and the shave brush and the razor. Most guys when they’re finished shaving, you take their razor, throw it to the side of the sink, what that does it basically exposes your blades to all sorts of dirt, grime, build-up, cleaning products, old soap, whatever. The next thing we’re using in your face, it’s definitely going to break you out or create some sort of irritation. The other neat part of the double wire stand is the fact that it holds a brush, okay. Now this is a badger hair brush, this is a great brush to use. It will last forever. It could be handed down from generation to generation and the proper way of drying your brush is hanging it upside-down so the double wire will stand allows you to do that. Back to the shave brush again, next thing I have is a shave bulb which is what we use with the shave brush and a proper shave cream made for a shave brush, not every shave cream is made to be used with a shave brush, so what you will do is you will basically put some of the shave cream in the bowl then use the brush and then apply the shave cream on to your beard. For those of you who are a little bit more experienced with your shaving this is a double edge razor so it’s basically like using a scrape blade that’s very, very sharp. I recommend sticking to a basic triple blade or double bladed razors or some of you who use 4-blades or you know quarto blades or whatever but this again is a type timeless piece and it’s a fun tool to use if you know what you’re doing so be careful using it. Some of you out there are probably listening and saying, “Well I don’t use a regular razor, I use an electric shaver” well believe it or not some of the same science applies when you’re using electric shaver. You should still wash and clean your face and you should still use after shave balm when using an electric shaver. Now this is a more up-to- date modern version of an electric shaver. They’re a lot lighter, the motor is easier to clean, the blades are a lot sharper and it could be changed every 6 months or as needed and it’s very, very quiet so it’s not as loud. I’m sure if some of you seen the really loud ones. I don’t recommend using this while you drive because a lot of guys tend to use electric shavers as they’re driving so they’re not really paying attention to where they are going, they’re focused more on their shaves so if you’re using this at home for some people who does save time and for some people that doesn’t, because it doesn’t get as close. Now as I said the same science applies, wash your face and use aftershave. But if you want to have an easier electric shave there are what’s called electric shaving solutions and what these do is basically create a smoother surface for the electric shaver to work on. And the last thing that I’m going to be talking about is what’s called a trimmer. Now trimmer is great if you have facial hair that is a little bit thicker and if you want to keep it trimmed or what not for those of you with a beard or a goatee that you want to trim down and for those of you who wear a bears and a goatee everyday. This is a great tool because you can attach guards to it and it helps trim down the hair. And the other thing that’s great for is as you can see it’s very quiet but you can use it to line up sideburns and get them evenly and perfectly matched or give it to your significant other to help shave your neck and clean up your neck line. So it’s a really, really great tool. So there you have it, you have some solutions products and some tools. I hope you learn a lot today. We tried to simplify shaving and break it down to a really basic steps while giving you tips and tools that can help make this dreaded everyday task into something fun. Because believe it or not every morning you have to walk up to that mirror and you have to stand there and you have to shave, so why not have fun. We’re going to be doing this the rest of your life unless you’re stuck on an island somewhere so you might as well enjoy it everyday. Until the next time, take care.
