Singer/Songwriter Cas Haley Interview Audra Lowe: Well, Reggae artist Cas Haley first entered the national spotlight in 2007 as a contestant on the second season of the hit TV show America’s Got Talent, and very quickly, he became a fan of favorites. And he’s on our show. From that point on, things have been growing pretty well for Cas. He’s got a new album out called “Connection” and he’s here to talk about it, and hopefully sing for us a little bit later, right? Cas Haley: Yeah. Audra Lowe: Good thing. Good to have you here. Cas Haley: Thank you for having me. Audra Lowe: Well, we’re going to talk about the show. You do are the runner up on the show but you were paid a huge compliment by judge Piers Morgan who said that you’re saying, “Walk on the moon better than sting.” Cas Haley: Yeah. That’s weird. Audra Lowe: That’s unbelievable. Cas Haley: It’s been a while. Audra Lowe: What was going to your mind when you heard that? Cas Haley: I was just so thankful that he didn’t ask me. It took me a lot a process what he had actually said. I just knew that I didn’t hear any buzzer because I was so, everything was so surreal and just didn’t you know sort to seemed like a dream because it happen so fast and I really didn’t plan on being on the show and that just sort of randomly happened. Audra Lowe: So how that too, what you decide to try out for the show then? Cas Haley: It was a really just sort of random sequence of events that sort of lead me there. Yeah, it was really -- I wasn’t very calculated and I woke the morning on the auditions and I’ve got a phone call from a good friend of mine who was helping managed my career at the time and stuff. And he’s like, “Are you going to audition?” I was like, “What audition?” And he was like, “The America’s Got Talent audition.” He’s like, “How about I booked that for you and a sort of back door audition where you don’t have to wait in line.” And so, that’s sort of got me there. I was like -- I guess I’ll go, since I’d obviously already told him in the past that I was going to go and I have forgotten about it or something. Audra Lowe: Right. Well, I hope you treat him very well still. Cas Haley: He’s a great friend. I can always depend on him. Audra Lowe: That’s good. That’s good. Cas Haley: So be honest to me. So he’s a good guy. Audra Lowe: You were offered a major deal but after America’s Got Talent and you turned it down. I mean do tell me about this. Why did you decided to do that? Cas Haley: You know, it goes back to me randomly getting involved then just not knowing what I was getting myself into and I mean how fast it all happen, like I just need to step back and take breath and just sort of get back to where I was. Figure what I wanted to do and how I wanted to go about pursuing this career because I knew that you know it means a lot to me. So I was just -- I wanted to make sure that I did it consciously. Audra Lowe: And you do it. Cas Haley: Yeah, yeah. Audra Lowe: And correct me if I’m wrong. You sign with the reggae label here in the U.S., is that right? Cas Haley: That’s Easy Star Records that’s based in New York City. Audra Lowe: And so are you happy that you made decision because it sounds like you knew exactly where you wanted to go. Cas Haley: Yeah. I knew that -- I knew that I wanted it whatever I did, I wanted to do really do it authentically and be a part of it and it just -- it didn’t look like the Simon Cowell path that’s going to fit me in the time. Which I love everybody on the show and it was a really beautiful experience but it just -- it wasn’t feeling right at the time. Audra Lowe: That’s great. Well, your group in Paris, Texas I know that you were surrounded by music quite a bit, so coming up in just a little bit. You’re going to sing something from your new album Connections, right? Cas Haley: Uh-huh. Audra Lowe: Okay. Cas Haley: I will sing Better. Audra Lowe: Yes. Good to have you here. Congratulations! Cas Haley: Thank you so much. Audra Lowe: And make sure to pick up Cas Haley’s album. It’s called Connection available now.

UK Songwriting

UK Songwriters, whilst continuing to look to their American counterparts for inspiration, have frequently referred to their own, somewhat more obscure musical heritage for inspiration. Whilst English music has roots in folk, country and blues, as do most contemporary western cultures, a strong seam of what I term 'Music Hall' or Edwardian Vaudeville also runs through the British pop idiom and has done since the '60s....
