Amy Chase: Hi. I’m Amy Chase and welcome to the 2007 SBA Awards in Saint Louis. We’re at the Award Ceremony and with me right now is Richard Trealor. He is President of Trealor Enterprises International and he is the winner of the Small Business Exporter of the Year Award. Thanks for joining us and congratulations. As winning about your business, very interesting, tell me a little bit about what you do. Richard Trealor: Well, we do a lot of exporting of agricultural motors, agricultural equipments, I mean, pretty much anything about bobcats, kid steers, fork clips. We disassembled the agricultural spraying equipment. We disassemble and containerize it and it’s very interesting. Bit of a chore but you know it’s—then the motors of course I’ve got two or three locations around the country; one in California, one in North Carolina ad one here. And we buy all over the country, the motors and packing and shipment from various locations. So you know it’s busy. Amy Chase: And most of this equipment is going to places like Southeast Asia and Australia, some areas maybe are not used to having this type of equipment. Richard Trealor: Yeah. And we’ve sent stuff to Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada just to name a few places and always looking for newer places to export to. Amy Chase: Obviously you try to tap a market that has been somewhat unmet up to this point, what gave you the idea to do that? Richard Trealor: What? Amy Chase: You are tapping a market that I guess is not been previously met. What gave you the idea to go in to those markets? Richard Trealor: Well, I’m an Australian and I used to farm in Australia and I got to travel a big wide world and just saw the difference of the world out there and it just sort of fell in to place. I mean, you know a lot of people when you’re traveling. I mean, I’ve been to America four or five times, worked previously until I came and settle here but when you’re traveling those distances, you’re on the plane for hours and hours and hours. You just meet a lot of different people, different perspectives and a lot of time in the airports and you know, it’s just what makes it all happen. You know, meeting all those different people. Amy Chase: And obviously this is a markage that some people that are buying these products have not been able to afford to but these types of products before as I understand it. What kind of difference do you think that you’re making at some of these parts of the world where this equipment is now available? Richard Trealor: Well, it does make it affordable. You know, like it’s hard for people. I mean America’s the basketball of all against the used equipment with technology is so quickly moving forward here. The discarded equipment here becomes raw equipment in most countries. You know, and this items discarded here helps them along the road to evolving in to industrialized countries. It’s interesting to say what happen and you know. Amy Chase: Great. That’s some great work. Let me ask you about also you have not been able to attend many of the meetings here but in general, when you go to events like these where you meet other small business owners and other people who are entrepreneurs, what are some of the things that you take from it? What do you look forward? Who do you like to talk to get ideas? Richard Trealor: Bank as always. You know its good source of finance but of course just interesting people in different odd jobs, odd situations as always. You know, you talk to people when talking generally at it, with generalities. If they got an odd profession, it usually lays to something that is informative and something that you can take home with you and pursue. You know, unusually people at this sort of venues are all in the export business in one form or another or a business in one form or another and just talking generally with people. You know, 3:43 on sometimes. You know, and all of a sudden is this grand opportunity presents itself. You know. Amy Chase: Well great. Thank you very much for sharing some of your ideas and innovations. We’ve been talking to Richard Trealor, President of Trealor Enterprises International and one of tonight’s award recipients. Stay tuned to SBTV.com we’ll have much more coverage of the 2007 SBA awards here in Saint Louis. SBTV.com, where small business is our only business.
