Steve Wozniak on Apple's 1984 Campaign Rebecca Brayton: In 1984, Apple released the first commercial to announce the arrival of the Macintosh computer. Hi, I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to WatchMojo.com. In this clips, Steve Wozniak reveals his thoughts and feelings on of the most powerful and revered commercials in advertising history. Steve Wozniak: The 1984 commercial kind of showed you know free running person overturning somebody who’s dictating this is the way it’s going to be and now there’s only one word. You have no free thought of your own. That was the sort of the theme of that commercial. Steve Jobs called me over to the building before it was shown and put it upon pneumatic player and there it was and I watched just done. But the message, the meaning, the feelings that gave you inside, the science fiction, production aspect and I said, “That is incredible.” You know you’re going to show to the super ball and said, “Well, the board decided against it.” And I was shocked and I was so young and naïve, you know. I said, “Why?” And he said, “Well, one thing was the cost to $800,000.00. I said, “I thought about it and we get public right there.” I said, “Well, put a path of money if you put up the other half because this should be shown. This is us.” He didn’t want to offend businessmen that were you know put down as they were just too straight and structured by the roles, which is probably right too. The commercial was so incredible. Male: On January 24th, Apple Computer will introduce Macintosh and you’ll see why 1984 won’t be like 1984. Steve Wozniak: This sort of people, the artistic type people like in Macintosh that easily be connected with that.
