Tammy, 38, has been smoking since she was 13 years old. She visits oncologist Dr. Lawrence Piro and experiences what it is like to live with lung cancer.

Tammy's Life with Lung Cancer Dr. Piro: When your lungs are destroyed from smoking, you can't get enough air exchange therefore you gasp for breathe. We’re going to put this tube into your nose to take away your ability to breathe in the nose and then you're going to breathe with this straw which is going to restrict the amount of air you can breathe simulating to reduce lung capacity. Up to the stairs we go. Tammy: I can't breathe anymore. Wow, that’s crazy. I felt like -- I don’t know I felt like my heart was going to stop. Dr. Piro: So for this experience I want you to see what it feels like to not be able to get up and walk on your own that you have to be wheeled everywhere with an oxygen mask with the help of your family. I think it’s an important thing as the final lesson to see what comes from smoking.
