Tiffany Young: Hi there and welcome to neo-fight.tv the technology reviews with two points of view. My name is Tiffany Young.
Ben Freedman: And I’m Ben Freedman, and today is Tuesday, September the 5th. And I got to tell you this is the happiest Tuesday -
Tiffany Young: It’s another coffee happy presentation.
Ben Freedman: It’s another coffee Tuesday.
Tiffany Young: Yeah.
Ben Freedman: You know we should have -
Tiffany Young: I swear we get like five more decibels of volume.
Ben Freedman: I know.
Tiffany Young: We have like 16 cups of coffee before we start the show.
Ben Freedman: We need to have coffee Tuesday. Listen, all the coffee makers out there whether you’re an Ebob or Starbucks or Folgers—
Tiffany Young: Ebob or yeah, any of those. Yeah.
Ben Freedman: Ebob, Nabob any of the bobs.
Tiffany Young: And anything like an E coffee you know.
Ben Freedman: E coffee. If ever you want to do a coffee Tuesday, every single Tuesday, we’re going to get together and have about 12 coffees before we start the show.
Tiffany Young: Please join us for coffee hour, yeah.
Ben Freedman: Back to the show.
Tiffany Young: Right. What do we have here?
Ben Freedman: We have here the – is this a Tas-is-mo? “Tas-si mo”? “Tas-simo”?
Tiffany Young: “Tas-simo”. No I suggest “imo” you said “Tas-ismo”.
Ben Freedman: Well let’s call the whole thing up.
Tiffany Young: We don’t know. It’s T-A-S-S-I-M-O.
Ben Freedman: Tossimo Coffee Maker and this is another on these coffee makers that kind of does it all for you and makes it very, very convenient. Let us give you a little bit of an overview here, the water goes in this jug here and as you can see it’s out of water—
Tiffany Young: It’s called the reservoir.
Ben Freedman: It’s called the reservoir.
Tiffany Young: Thank you.
Ben Freedman: It’s out of water because we’ve been drinking so much of it and it fits in the back here like this. And that’s really about the only maintenance you have to do with the machine runs out of water you fill it up with water.
Tiffany Young: And you plug it in.
Ben Freedman: And you plug it in and then you lift up on the front here and in here is where your beverage of choice goes. And you would be able to see it but there is actually a bar code reader in here so depending on what kind of coffee you’re making. Now what are you holding up there? What kind of coffee do you have?
Tiffany Young: I don’t have coffee.
Ben Freedman: You don’t have coffee.
Tiffany Young: As a matter of fact I have—
Ben Freedman: It does more than just coffee.
Tiffany Young: I have Earl Grey tea; is what I’m holding up right here.
Ben Freedman: Now show the little bar code, can you see the bar code on here?
Tiffany Young: It’s right there.
Ben Freedman: So if you’re making—first I’ve got here is espresso and you’ll notice here that there’s a bar code on top and if you’re making an espresso, the bar code tells the machine only it’s supposed to be announced. But if you’re making tea which is you all know because its tea it’s supposed to be 6 ounces.
Tiffany Young: It says something.
Ben Freedman: So the bar codes tell the coffee maker what it is you’re brewing?
Tiffany Young: Or hot chocolate, we have hot chocolate too.
Ben Freedman: Hot chocolate too there you go. So there you go.
Tiffany Young: Tend to explain a little further, what happens is it goes in and there’s a little – inside this coffee maker it’s kind of like a scanner that you’d see it says okay.
Ben Freedman: That’s right. Let me put this thing here.
Tiffany Young: Whatever convenience sort of -
Ben Freedman: You take this in here like that.
Tiffany Young: And it reads, actually reads that bar code like then said right there when you place it upside down on top of that bar code.
Ben Freedman: What it also does it is punctures a hole on the top for the water to go through to here, look what it does squeeze that down, push it all the way down.
Tiffany Young: All the way?
Ben Freedman: Yeah. See now what happens is it punctured a hole in the little disc that the coffee is in and so now when you press the button the coffee goes through that disc and they have a built in filter of the cup.
Tiffany Young: Cup goes across right here. Well actually what happens here is if it’s a tall cup and this comes out, right. And then your cup goes right in there like that.
Ben Freedman: Cup goes right in there.
Tiffany Young: And it fills it up.
Ben Freedman: Very, very cool. Now, what are you drinking there Tiff?
Tiffany Young: I am drinking a cappuccino and I have to say that I am a very spoiled coffee drinker. If it’s not just right at Starbucks and I’m the one that goes “Can you just remake it please because that’s not very good?” They’re like “Here come that girl again.”
Ben Freedman: So this means that meets with your approval?
Tiffany Young: It does, it’s actually it’s not bitter. That’s the number one thing that I cannot stand in coffee is when the shot, the espresso shot is bitter.
Ben Freedman: Especially they wait too long or -
Tiffany Young: That’s an automatic return for me every time. It’s excellent; it’s very, very good.
Ben Freedman: What’s kind of neat there is that with a lot of coffee makers they’ll make the espresso for you for the drink. But then you have to go steam the milk.
Tiffany Young: Right.
Ben Freedman: Not so with the Tassimo.
Tiffany Young: Cool as this.
Ben Freedman: This is a very, very cool feature. So here is your espresso shot, you put in first and when you’re done with the espresso shot it comes with this cappuccino creamer. And as you see in that are a bunch f cream and again the bar code, so you put this in there in exactly the same way with the same cup under there and first out comes your espresso and then out comes your steamed or froth milk.
Tiffany Young: Right.
Ben Freedman: And so you don’t have to steam your own milk, you can do that. Similarly you’ve got, what is this, hot chocolate?
Tiffany Young: It fills up to about, right; it fills up to about like an espresso. About right, right there and milk in an espresso.
Ben Freedman: Right that’s about normal size tall for the drinks.
Tiffany Young: I have no idea how many calories are in this and you need to work this up.
Ben Freedman: No.
Tiffany Young: Because it’s really good.
Ben Freedman: Read the bar code.
Tiffany Young: I’m thinking yeah right, it needs to scan it and so anyway it’s excellent.
Ben Freedman: So very nice design, very yummy coffee and we’ve been drinking way too much of it today. My only one con on this if I may?
Tiffany Young: Which is my con, no, we’re agreeing on the con on this.
Ben Freedman: Too much coffee we started agreeing on this.
Tiffany Young: I see what happens yeah.
Ben Freedman: Actually I have two cons.
Tiffany Young: If we only agree on Tuesdays.
Ben Freedman: Tuesday is agreement day.
Tiffany Young: Tuesday’s agree day, right.
Ben Freedman: There’s only – actually I have two small points here that I’d like to mention. Number one is, I noticed that it leaks a little bit, there’s an overflow tube, where I can’t see it right here. There’s a little overflow tube that goes in to here and over time this will actually fill up because it tends to spit out a little water as it’s heaving it up and leaking.
Tiffany Young: Right.
Ben Freedman: Even when you’re not making coffee, I find that it came out. I thought maybe it was jus our machine and I actually called the Tassimo representative who sent us this fine machine and she said “No what it normally does and so you have to empty this every once in a while or else you don’t empty it will actually spill out on to your counter.
Tiffany Young: Right.
Ben Freedman: You have to empty that you know everyday or so and if you’re standing like, I don’t know if you noticed but if you’re standing like too close to the machine while you brew coffee. You don’t want to be standing too close to it and then hit the coffee button because it will spit a little bit as it’s frothing the milk or as it’s steaming the espresso.
Tiffany Young: Right that’s true.
Ben Freedman: And there’s that. And my other small point, I’m sorry did you wan to jump in there.
Tiffany Young: No I was going to add a couple but go ahead. I agree with you on that way.
Ben Freedman: What’s your other point? Go ahead.
Tiffany Young: Mine? Thanks, give me the floor. Great now I forgot, no I’m just kidding. Wait, no I have two, I have two. One is, is that how available are these?
Ben Freedman: Well it’s just like the current coffee maker, I haven’t seen them in my –
Tiffany Young: No Kirk has it at Target.
Ben Freedman: You can get them at Target.
Tiffany Young: You can get them a Target but I did not see these, I was just like looking yesterday, I did not see this at Target.
Ben Freedman: I think that just like places where you can buy these but the best place to get them is probably online.
Tiffany Young: Right.
Ben Freedman: And just order a bunch of them
Tiffany Young: What about expense?
Ben Freedman: Very, very similar I think you get like a pocket 20 of these for $8 or $9 or it depends. It’s more expensive for the espresso drinks and the hot chocolate other than say the coffee.
Tiffany Young: Okay and then the last thing I was going to say maybe. The last thing I wan to say right a second is that it takes a little bit of time for this to heat up before you pushed the button.
Ben Freedman: It does.
Tiffany Young: And you know the coffee is actually pouring.
Ben Freedman: So you put the disc in and if you haven’t had a coffee in a while you might have to wait 10 or 15.
Tiffany Young: A while meaning like half an hour. Okay. But the coffee is so good, it’s really I mean these little things that kind of you know tear you off a little bit with the spitting of the water and the waiting up a little and telling you the reservoir -
Ben Freedman: What is all that compared to a good cup of coffee?
Tiffany Young: What is that compared to a non-bitter of espresso?
Ben Freedman: My only other question, the only other thing that I wish they had was adjustable temperature. And maybe if they have to do this one you kind of adjust the temperature on it, I like my coffee a little cooler.
Tiffany Young: Okay, see I like the way it is.
Ben Freedman: I like some of the other machines that you can back down the temperature a little bit so you can drink it kind of right away which this machine can’t do but other than that’s very, very small so you know what I love this machine.
Tiffany Young: Small beans.
Ben Freedman: Very nice design, very yummy coffee. I give it a four out five.
Tiffany Young: Small coffee beans.
Ben Freedman: Small coffee beans?
Tiffany Young: Small beans, small potatoes you know.
Ben Freedman: Small beans, small potatoes. Okay you’re cut off.
Tiffany Young: In a bit skinny thing.
Ben Freedman: That’s it no more coffee for you. You’re done!
Tiffany Young: No more espresso, I have had like seven I think and it starts shaking over here. It’s still good.
Ben Freedman: I give it a four out of five. Tiffany?
Tiffany Young: I think that’s a pretty good score, four out of five. You know I’m going to give it a four out of five too, I mean I know well I have to agree with you because of the little spitting thing and whatever.
Ben Freedman: That’s one point.
Tiffany Young: Just a couple of little corrections but I think the coffee is very, very good.
Ben Freedman: Very yummy coffee.
Tiffany Young: Which is – and I’m so picky about coffee so -
Ben Freedman: She is picky.
Tiffany Young: It’s very good, it’s really good so four out of five.
Ben Freedman: So that’s four out of five for Tiffany and four out of five for me agreeing on coffee Tuesday. That’s a grand total of 8 out of 10 for the Tassimo coffee maker which is bring the coffee that we’re enjoying right now. Thank you very much.
Tiffany Young: Yup, here cheers.
Ben Freedman: Cheers!
Tiffany Young: See you tomorrow.
Ben Freedman: And you have 30 seconds more, take a look at this.
