Kaili McDonnough: Africa’s Treasure beach, literally in the middle of the sea, lies a world famous Pelican Bar. Hi. Dennis: Hi, hello. Kaili McDonnough: Thanks for serving me up. Dennis: You’re very welcome. Kaili McDonnough: So tell me something, how do you keep come up with the idea for this bar? Dennis: Well, it’s Floyd —he called me the idea. He said how much do you— and he come up here and bring it to reality. Kaili McDonnough: So Floyd is a crazy man? Dennis: No, he’s not. I think his a brilliant guy and I realized. Kaili McDonnough: Brilliant and very creative, that’s it. Dennis: Yeah. Kaili McDonnough: So how these structures stay firm? Dennis: Because this is —by the way these are somewhat —the wood is like a pick within, straight on it. Kaili McDonnough: In into sand? Dennis: Yeah into the sand. Kaile McDonnough: And you use machines? Dennis: No, we — water. Kaili McDonnough: This must have been taken you forever to do. Dennis: No, it didn’t take long. It takes about two months. Kaili McDonnough: So this bar is built most out of driftwood? Dennis: Yeah, these are different types of wood here. Kaili Mcdonnough: And what about, I know that hurricanes and everything hitting down this side, this is never washed away? Dennis: Yes, the first barrio was—here before, they got this trailer —in 2004. Kaili McDonnough: And you just built it back? Dennis: Yeah. Kaili McDonnough: Does this bar open, everyday? Dennis: Yeah, everyday. Kaili McDonnough: From what time? Dennis No, we have no specific time, as long as there are some guest once we always come over, even 7 o’ clock in the morning until like whatever time in the night, we stay open. Kaili McDonnough: So you’re out here late? Dennis: Late, yeah. Kaili McDonnough: Without any light? Dennis: Yeah, we have light, we have a windmill here. Kaili McDonnough: Oh, nice. Dennis: Yeah. Kaili McDonnough: This is a crazy structure. I think you could only find a bar like this in Jamaica.
