We can do it simply by applying the right nutritional protocol and by applying the right exercise protocol. As we age, our body becomes actually less and less tolerant to oxidative stress. We are under increased risk of oxidative damage to the muscle tissue. It’s the same oxidative damage that age all of our tissue can age the muscle. So our exercise is supposed to be short term, not long term as many people do. Short term, five minutes, 15 minutes, do it at home, do it on the gym but do it maximum. Challenge the neuromuscular system to keep itself vibrant. Challenge your brain properly. So short term exercise, maximum exercise interval, would be the right protocol. As for the nutrition, as we age we lose our digestive power. We lose digestive enzymes, so we should apply food which is easily digestible, fast assimilating, but yet provide all the key amino acids, antioxidant, immune supportive compounds that we really need. All these central nutrients must be received by the body and definitely by the muscle. The best source for this food, all the evidence shows, is good whey protein. Whey protein which is cold processed from grass fed cows, which are not hormonally treated, by all means would provide all the nutrition that you need for the muscle to preserve itself. It’s also easily digestible and fast assimilating. It’s not easily accessible, but if you find it, it’s the best source. Also, antioxidants, as your age increase the amount of antioxidants in your food. Increase the intake of fruits and vegetables. And, finally, try to avoid junk food. Try to avoid things that you know are harmful. Try to avoid oils that could be harmful. Try to avoid refined food. Do the right thing, avoid the bad thing. Avoid sugar, avoid distilled oil, refined oil, avoid refined protein like protein isolate. Eat whole food. Supplement yourself. If you do supplement, supplement with natural vitamins, not with synthetic vitamins, and you’re going to do well. Another element that you need to understand, as you age, you are losing muscle fiber, but the majority of the loss of muscle fiber are fast fiber, the ones that generate maximum force, maximum energy, the ones that keep you strong, viable and fast. In order not to lose it, you’ve got to exercise properly you are to challenge. The only way to challenge this muscle fiber is by incorporating maximal exercise. Exercise that involves strength, such as resisting or pull or push activities, such as martial arts; or even sprints like maximum speed activities would challenge the fiber and the neuromuscular system from degrading itself. Again, make sure it’s short term, don’t overdo it. Eat properly and you will preserve your muscle.
