The History of Baseball in Sacramento Part 7/7
Male: I was very emotional in 1960.
Male: Well, when I go by the target roadside in Broadway I remember Edmond’s Field, I’ve been to remember times to ball games, other events and I always get bit nostalgic. I think back overtimes that I heard about where Joe DiMaggio made home runs there Babe Ruth did.
Male: I don’t buy that much from target. I kind of resent that they took away my little game in the sun.
Male: For brief time in the seven days a new team took the Solons name but they two folded. Sacramento’s with go 23 years before seeing another professional game. May 15th 2000 would be the next milestone for Sacramento baseball and opening day for the city newest ball park Raley Field. The Vancouver Canadians became the Sacramento River Cats bringing their success is with them but maybe better than success on the field. They’ve made new fans and brought back those who’ve had their hearts broken before.
Male: With the presence of the River Cats we affirm is that Sacramento is still a baseball town.
Male: And I think that the number one things I enjoy is come to the park and the atmosphere here is getting outstanding. I think the players really enjoyed playing in front of 10 to 12 thousand people daily and they’re motivated to go out and play the game as long I long as I can.
Male: And that motivation extends to their role in the community with the River cats partner to build Independence field.
Male: To build the facility, there is dedicated to people with disabilities provided them the opportunity to play baseball in an environment that allows to get around and be able to do it. It’s a wonderful thing. And the thing that really got me was the family component. All of those things combine to in my mind make it best sport that there is.
Male: On fields like Independence involve parts across Sacramento. You can still see the inspiration behind the game Cartwright established and brought west a game that meant to be played and enjoyed simply for the pure fun of it.
Female: Baseball has its own rhythm and I think that was nice about it.
Host: And there’s nothing like being in the Sacramento at night and is just a beautiful refreshing to be out there and yelling for you team and that’s what makes baseball such a game.
Male: Well, baseball is more than a game. It’s the combination of hard work and say its’ competition had its finest. It’s just a great day.
Male: I love baseball for lot of reasons and one of them is that it’s a bridge to the past. It links us with generations. I remember going at the games with my father. Baseball is a game that can bind fathers and their sons together. That’s one of things about baseball that keeps it a life.
Bud : What I love about the game is the game itself, you know there is nothing in the world like going to a ball game the smell of hotdogs and the beer.
Cuno: This sound that the ball hitting the bat playing my first game in regular field hitting a home run first time of that.
Bud: For then you play the game and you play it as well you know how to play it. And that’s what I love about baseball.
