Marc Lichte: Compared to its predecessor, the car looks much thinner. We achieved that by having the area around the B pillar here very far inward with the car growing very wide from the B pillar forward. That means we emphasized the wheels. The whole car is reinforced by a very striking and sharp line above the middle of the wheel. The same is repeated at the back. We have a very precise line, very sharp above the wheel tapering off towards the front and also the back. By doing so, we are able to emphasize the wheels and it looks as if we are taking the weight out of the middle. Host: Volkswagen has made the new Touareg not only lighter but also more economical and more agile. That’s evident both inside and out. In Europe, it’s the only German made SUV available as a hybrid version. The hybrid Touareg is powered by a gasoline engine in the front and hidden beneath the truck is an electric engine in the back. Budget conscious SUV customer should take a liking to the new Touareg.
