Hi, welcome to Watch Mojo.com. I’m your host Christine. Today, we’ll be taking a brief look at the most prominent landmark in Washington D.C.—the Washington Monument. The Washington Monument is the most prominent as well as one of the older attractions in Washington D.C. It was build in honor of George Washington who lead the country to independence and then became it’s first president. The monument is shaped like an Egyptian obelisk 555 feet high and average is 30-40 visibility in clear weather. The monument is among the world’s tallest masonry structures. It was designed by Robert Mills, a prominent American architect of the 1840’s. The actual construction of the monument began in 1848. It was not completed until 1884, almost 30 years after the architect’s death. At the time of it’s construction, it was the tallest building in the world. It is still the tallest building in Washington D.C.
