5 Things to Learn for Free: Meghan, Mary, and Julia talk about how you can learn new skills for free. Education on the cheap!

Julia: Welcome to TMIWeekly. I am Julia. Megan: I am Megan. Mary: And I am Mary. Megan: And today we’re talking about things you can do for free. Mary: Ohh. Julia: Especially during this current economic climate, it’s fun to learn how to do things for free. So, one of the things that I wanted to learn how to do is to groom your dog for free. Mary: Did you see my TMIWeekly that I did? Julia: I did. It was so well done so check out Mary’s TMI Weekly about how to clip nails. Mary: Right. Julia: Which is actually can be a little bit tricky. The best suggestion I have for learning how to groom your dog for free is actually going into your local groomer especially in one that is not— Megan: Like Petco—you go into Petco. Julia: No I don’t think Petco would be a good one to go. Mary: Why? Julia: I think of Petco. Megan: Okay. Julia: Because they will actually teach you how to do it while they are doing it. Also there is a website called BellaOnline which you can go to and it has all sorts of different lengths to learn how to groom your dog in your sink at home which can save you a ton of money. To groom Willy, it cost about $85. Mary: Wow. Julia: And that is at Petco. I mean I give her bath in the sink on a regular basis but— Megan: No, it totally makes sense financially. Mary: I take him in the shower. Julia: Do you really? Mary: We shower together. Megan: So my tip is going MITs website and to go into the OpenCourseWare and you will actually get all—a copy of a lecture notes, videos. Julia: You know who else has lectures is Stanford’s website. Mary: Yeah. Megan: Really? Julia: I don’t know if it is video lectures but it is definitely podcast. You can put them on your iPod and just listen to them while you are going out of run or whether you are going to the gym or whatever. Megan: Yeah. Mary: Interesting. Megan: And then the other thing as far as technology wise, Microsoft without buying of their products, you can actually learn now to use like excel or any of the I mean— Julia: How? Megan: Basically any Microsoft product. You don’t have to pay for any of it. Mary: Wow. Megan: And then also, if you guys are Photoshop people and you don’t know how to use it or you want to learn it. Mary: Ohh, that is a good one. Megan: Yeah. Go on rev3, they have a really, really great show called pixel perfect and it is step-by-step, super, super easy to use. Mary: That is great. Well you know Photoshop unfortunately is not free. Megan: I know. Julia: No! Megan: But you can learn it for free, you can learn it for free. Up next… Julia: I don’t know why I love it, I just do. New adorable episodes every Tuesday at ultrakawaii.com Mary: So the other day, I was going on the state and the guy called me, he is like, ‘do you know how to tie a bow tie? And I was like of course I do, I don’t. So I went to Howcast and they had a how to tie a bow tie and so then when I got on the car, he is like okay tie my bow tie—done. Julia: Nice work Mary. Mary: It is easy—I know. Megan: And entertaining. They actually have an iPhone application too, so you can do that on the go, oh my God. Mary: Oh really? That is good to know. Julia: Oh I like that. Megan: Yeah. Julia: Speaking of iPhone applications, I just downloaded one which—this is listen this is really basic but it’s dictionary.com’s word of the day, love this feature. Megan: That is amazing. Mary: Yeah. Julia: I don’t why I love it, I just do. Megan; My one last little resource online is basically learning how to make drinks. So it’s the American Bartenders Association. it’s bartending101.com and it teaches you all the ways to make drinks all for free. Julia: bettedaviseyes says, ‘what are the best free spots for music in New York City? I was just walking through Central Park, I walk right by a full scale opera going on. Mary: Wow. Julial: You can go Central Park’s website and they have a list of all the free events. Megan: Yeah sure. Mary: And Bryant Park does movie screening. Apparently, they block up the park and then at five o’clock they lift up the rope and everybody runs for a spot and that’s a really cool event. Julia: I love doing that stuff.
