Top Worst Tech Gifts for Grads
Tom Merritt: Welcome to CNET TOP 5 where each time we meet, we countdown another hot CNET list. I’m Tom Merritt.
Pump and circumstance is playing up and down our great country and beyond as women and men receive their diplomas and head out into the wide world to seek their fortunes in the workplace or further schooling and you can ruin it all with one awful gift.
Let’s count down the Top 5 Worst tech Gifts. At number five is a cute mouse. Now, your grad may be the exemption here but make very sure. Most grads are heading into uneasy new worlds where our first impression is very important and the cute mouse may not be right for them.
Coming in at number four is the Digital Picture Frame. This one is usually double jeopardy as it’s often filled with digital embarrassing photos of the family especially when the grad in question was young, awkward and poorly dressed.
Up to number 3 is a vacuum cleaner. This isn’t hi-tech. No, not even if it’s a Dyson. Roomba? Okay, but only because it’s a robot. It barely squeaks by though.
Sliding in at number 2 is a bright shiny new PDA without any kind of phone or internet capability. If you’re seriously considering buying your grad a PDA, you need to get out of the Chevy citation, take off the leg warmers and open your eyes to the modern age.
Before we get to number one, I have a gift for you. It’s a set of Naboo and Droid Fighter Battle things with fast-pace of dogfighting action, perfect for any graduate. All you have to do is go to blog.cnettv.com and be one of the first ten people to tell us what high school Apple Steve Jobs graduated from. Look for the post for this Top 5.
All right, let’s get to our number one, the worst tech gift for a graduate. At number 1 is the dreaded Generic MP3 player. It’s not an iPod. It’s not even a Zune and often, it’s just plain awful. The worst example of this was the MobiBlu T10 which our reviewers called “The worst touch screen MP3 player we’ve ever reviewed.” Either get them a real player like an Archos or give them the cash.
That’s it for this edition of CNET TOP 5. Don’t forget to post your answer on blog.cnettv.com for a chance to win fast-paced dogfighting action. It’s never even been open. If you like the best gifts for grads; go to grads.cnet.com for a Dads and Grads gift guide. I’m Tom Merritt. Congratulations grads!
