Travel Guide on Naxos in Greece

Description

Go on a journey with Shepherd entertainment and discover the sites and wonders of Naxos in Greece.

Transcript
Naxos which used to be rich and of great significance in ancient times cannot compete with Santorini and Mykonos today. The infrastructure of the biggest island of the Cyclades is now under construction. If we stand facing the scenic amphitheatrical town, the palacia peninsula with its famous marble gate can be seen on the left side while Platia, the lively arched main square on the right. The continuance of the main square is the promenade following the coastline. The Venetian castle and the surrounding romantic old town rise about it. The monumental marble gate is the remains of an unfinished Apollo temple from 26 centuries ago. From the main square or the coastal promenade, we can walk up to Castro on winding and ever ascending streets. This scenic part of town divided by stairs and arches is Burgas, inhabited chiefly by orthodox believers. Everything that’s important for tourism can be found in the trade district of the beach. Among the stores, giftshops, cafes and pubs, travel agencies, program offices, shipping companies, airlines, exchange offices and car rentals could be found, plus automatic teller machines and public telephones. Among the seven towers of the citadel, only one has remained. Behind the castle walls stands the palace of the duke, one of its wings houses the descendants of the family. Their coat of arms can still be seen above the entry. The other wing functions as a cultural venue.

Holidays in Greece on Santorini and Kefalonia

Most holidays in Greece begin and end in Athens and visit between three and five islands over two weeks. The basic holidays in Greece hop between the most popular islands: Athens --- Paros, for the beaches and the windsurfing -- Antiparos --- Naxos --- then on to Santorini with its famous volcano and beautiful white towns cascading down the hills, or to smaller, almost car-free Ios. Holidays in Greece between the more popular islands are easier because the ferry service is more regular; to visit smaller islands it's often easier to head back to Athens and then out again....
