A strong earthquake on October 25 caused a tsunami in West Sunmatra, Indonesia. The Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency warned that there would be small tsunamis after the 7.2 magnitude quake hit Pagai, one of the Mentawai islands. The tsunami could be compared to the 2004 earthquake and Indian Ocean tsunami, which took the life of 230,000 people in dozen countries. This time, the tsunami destroyed most buildings in the coastal village of Betu Monga, killed more than 100 people and left hundreds others missing.
