Transcript
We are making a turkey shepherd’s pie with sweet potatoes on top. How good is that sound? In this skillet here, I’ve browned up two pounds of ground turkey meat, it smells fantastic, it’s got Poultry seasoning, salt and pepper on it. I just added, well, two basic elements from Thanksgiving stuffing, right, celery and onion going in. A few leaves of celery from the heart, nice big onion, smells fantastic. I’ve got my sweet potatoes, diced them into about a one inch dice, when they come up to a boil, take the lid off guys, salt them, let them boil away about 15 minutes until they’re just tender and then we’re going to mash them up and put them right on top of our turkey. You know what, this is a great day after Thanksgiving meal, too, because instead of ground turkey, you could substitute leftover turkey, about two pounds we’ve cubed up, white and dark meat from whatever you have leftover from Thanksgiving. I’m being a little more—I’m scraping over here. I’m just grating up my carrots, I think a lot quicker. Okay, now we’ve got that working. Let’s stir it all in there, get it all distributed, and now I’m going to turn the heat back just a bit so the veggies can just sweat out and not brown up too much. Let’s turn it back just here. That’s cooked up beautifully. I made a lovely gravy that’s thickened up. Look at that. This is nothing guys. This is just flour, a little bit of butter, some chicken stock or turkey stock in a box, salt, pepper, a dash of Worcestershire, that’s it. That’s getting perfectly thick. Let’s start our mash now. I’m going to start by placing the same pot I cooked the potatoes in right back on the stovetop. You melt a little butter in the bottom and then I’m going to slice in a nice ripe banana. See, this is really, really ripe, so to be nice and sweet, slice a little bit of banana down at the bottom of the pot and let that hang out for a few minutes, few slices in there, about a half of a small banana. Okay, let’s get our gravy into our turkey mixture, so it’s just about ready to go into the oven. Okay, scrape that out, turn that off, add in our peas now, so they stay nice and bright. Give that a toss, frozen peas take nothing, just a minute or two, they’ll be nice and warm through in this nice hot mixture. So that is good to go then you just smooth it out in an even layer to get ready for our potatoes. Turn that off, a little bit of hot sauce down into our pan for our sweet potatoes, let’s add our potatoes to the pan, a little salt pepper action, go easy on the pepper because you got the hot sauce in there of course. I love mashing anything. Isn’t it fun? How good does that look? I think they’re just about perfect. Nice! Okay, so use our wood spatula here to help us slather these guys around the top, hello supper and I love shepherd’s pie, a little golden cheddar up on top of this baby, sounds like a good idea to me, how about you? Cut up our bag here so we can get into it. Cheesy goodness and now, we’ll just pop into that 400 degree oven, everything is fully cooked, we’re just browning up our cheese. Look at that. Can you see—look at that, come on with that.
