Vaginal Birth Pain Control Tips Let’s talk about the most appropriate way to make sure that you have adequate pain control and how to talk to your anesthesiologist in a manner that you both will understand. The biggest thing that you can do to help communicate what your concerns are to your anesthesiologist, write them down on a 3 x 5 card. I see patients in consultation all the time and they are sitting there, oh I got a million questions, um, don’t remember right now. If you have questions it doesn’t have to be right then and there, talk it over with your significant other, your spouse, your husband your child care giver, write them down so you have a list. The only stupid question is the one that’s not asked. You don’t know, you don’t know, okay? This is all part about education, all right? Things that you need to come equipped with when you come to talk to your anesthesiologist, obviously if you have had any kind of medical problems that is atypical, something that you have had, heart surgery, you have orthopedic problems, whatever the case, the more information that you provide me regarding your own medical history, the better job I can do or the other anesthesiologists can do in order to be able to answer your questions in a logical and appropriate manner.
