Visit a WWI Artillery Bunker in Cortina, Italy Male 1: Something we are lucky enough to discover here in the Dolomite is this World War 1Artillery Bunker and Andrei tell me a little about this? Male 2: Well, they were fighting them out over here. This is supposed to be Austrian lines and overlooking the valley was supposed to be the Italians trying to push the Austrians here. Male 1: From the outside, the gunnery portals were barely discernable but inside, we discovered a maze of tunnels that round their way through the limestone cliffs. Male2: And they were using to build tunnels, like tunnels through the snow and through the mountains. So you can see this place here, they were used to put guns and overlooking the valley to the other side. The winter season was very bad because those days, they have a lot of snow. And in some areas people died more because of the snow than the fighting of the war.
