Mark Twain observed in his book life on the Mississippi. Chicago, a city where they are always rubbing a lamp and fetching up the genie, and contriving and achieving new impossibilities. It is hopeless for the occasional visitor to try to keep up with Chicago, she out grows her prophecies faster than she can make them. She is always a novelty for she is never the Chicago you saw when you pass through the last time. Old parks languish in their extravagance splendor cost by the most modern of modern vehicles. Even Chicago Police were using Segways on patrol. The new open space in town right on Michigan Avenue, Millennium Park, 24 1/2 acres, $475,000,000 worth. It is clear it is not just another green floor. There is 11,000 square foot amphitheater by internationally acclaimed architect Frank Veer. A huge 110 sculpture from artist Anish Kapoor, Fog Gate. Water cascades from a pair of towering blast inspirations by Spanish sculptor James Plansta with a special surprise. The gli with which the water has been embraced is a surprised to park managers but probably not to its designer. Michigan Avenue is fulcrum of the city around which modern life here revolves. Chicago’s magnificent mile on Michigan Avenue is world class shopping, 460 retail stores and boutiques, a diverse mix of American and International style. The city skyline is a magnificent example of American architecture at its finest. The second tallest building in the world the Sears Tower anchors the south end, 1,480 feet. The Field Museum of National History and Architectural Masterpiece of the 1920’s is named after its major benefactor Marshal Field.
