Visit the State Parks in Delaware Narrator: What you will not find in Delaware are national parks. It’s said the state has done such a great job with their parks, there in many national park. For a state so small, there’s great variety. In Delaware, at trap Pond State Park, the northern most followed site swamp along the east coast. At one time, the dominant tree in coastal swamps excessive cutting and drainage of swamp lines has taking its toll. The tall trees, maybe 150 feet tall, some tree over a thousand years old had trunk diameters at twelve feet or more. The cipher’s long snake-like roots extend far out from the swollen base. They have the tree support and soft swamp mud. Along the eastern shore in Henlopen State Park, the 80 foot great dune is the state’s highest. South along the beach, the old World War II watchtower stands a new testament to this country’s venerability during World War II. The Delaware Sea Shore in Fenwick Island State Parks is pair of jewels in the park system. Reservation of dunes in natural beaches in the parks was punctuated by development between. At Indian River inlet, spring of fish runs lure anglers to hunt. Delaware Sea Shore State Park maintains a huge camp ground at Indian River inlet. It’s right between the Indian River Bay and the Atlantic so campers have great access to the water and either direction and can walk or ride a bicycle to fishing or the beach. Across Delaware highway one on the Atlantic, there is an entirely different picture. Sport fishing boats fly their way for rock fish, drippers and sharks. On the beach, surf ambush. Larry Biasotto: We’re at Fenwick Island Delaware. Because the wind is always great, the waves are always there. This is called kite boarding. That’s the most fun you can have on the water. Well, you can jump. I mean the pros jump 30 or 40 feet out of the water even on flat water and just carving on the waves and having a six day Bermuda high. We take the vacations to do this and it we schedule our work life around it and that’s just about everything else. Narrator: Across the road, Mud Bay. There’s a passion in exuberance about this sport that seems to distinguish it from others. Larry Biasotto: They call it the Mud Hole because the bottom is all mud. We’re right between Fenwick Island and Ocean City Maryland. And usually when we sail on the Atlantic across the street but this is the mud hole and it’s really, really smooth and flat. So when the wind is coming right down the channel, I mean it’s like giving money away here. Everybody loves this place. Let us kind of fill in the leaning edge of the platter. I’ve already got the compressor. They’re all full of air. I’ve already had them set up. So now I’m going to use a little pump it and put in most of the air. I’ll still have to use a hand pump too to pump the rest of it up. Normally, six people here are crowded. We got nine already. Usually the ocean will cause type certain of waves. Here on the bay we just surf kite boarding, riding and doing those kinds of stuff. As you see, I'm about 90% there so what I'll do now is pop that using a hand pump. If you bought on new stuff, it might be $2000 for kite, a bar, for lines and a board. But normally, we talk to people to just take because they're going to destroy the first peg they have anyway. So, there it is. Now, the kite is ready to go. Now what I'll do is move it over here and then I'll attach these in 100 foot lines here. We’ll attach it to the kite. You can see out there, that’s what’s everybody is doing there. This is what you don’t want to do. If you lose the kite in the ocean then the lines were emit. This is what happens when they have to swim in. this is the matter of rotating the kite. Keep it in to the wind. The kite is pretty light. Okay. Normally, I put sand on this but there’s not enough wind. This spot make that move. Now I'm just going to unroll my lines. Tom Woodstock: There are two shops in Dewey beach that offer lessons. They utilize jet skis to keep track of you. First you'll learn how to fly the kite which is easy. It takes a couple of hours to practice flying the kite and then you'll learn how to body drive. You'll get the kite into the power zone and you're dragged through waste deep water and then you'll start learning how to get up in the board. Then spend a few days just kind of flopping around on the board. It’s not a sport of power or strength. Women do it equally with men for that reason. In fact, a lot of balance and skill— of course women learn faster because they know they can over power it. The kites are extremely powerful. You do have to take lessons. So if anyone out there that thinks they're going to come out on a Saturday, you have to take lessons. You have to learn the safety aspects of it.
