Bridget Snapp: Today on ClubHoseGas we’re serving up in some volleyball advice. That wasn’t best. To learn about some volleyball basics and drills, I have now with the friend with the show Volleyball Coach, Mary Buczek of the Lovett Lines during one of the practices. Let me tell you one thing right now this stuff is much better than it looks. The coach put me in on the first drill of the day. Mary Buczek: They’re play in positions that they don’t normally play. They are playing somebody else this position and there having to learn what another person might do, so usually there is only one setter in the court. Everybody is learning what it’s like to be setter. The girls who over hand take the ball over hand and what we call setter and it’s in the setting position. Bridget Snapp: What are the other positions are there? Mary Buczek: The other positions are attackers, hitters and there is the one that you see now that take the swing at the ball usually that there contact. We actually have that you ever watch game, but as a girl that wears uniform then anybody else, and that is a Libero or you may hear Lebaro. (Wears a different color shirt from the other members of the team, May not serve, block or attempt to block, restricted on the back row and may not complete an attack when the ball is above on the top of the net) Bridget Snapp: But its properly pronounce lebaro right? Mary Buczek: Exactly, that I always say Libero, but if you asked fastly say Lebaro. Bridget Snapp: That’s were in the south. Mary Buczek: Yeah, and they are basically defense in specialists and that can be on the court they have no substitution roles. To be more specific on positions you have an outside hitter and this drill is all outside hitter or inside right now we are trying just to set the outside, which means the far left front row player and then there is a middle blocker who is a middle hitter and has to block every single ball. Then there is a right side hitter, who stands on the right side of the court and attacks the ball. Bridget Snapp: So our different abilities going to be better for the different positions? Mary Buczek: Yeah, one of the things we look for in a setter somebody with good leadership goes good verbal skills and well in the faster they are in the better usually size again you want them to be you know tall we have a very short setter. So we don’t want to discourage that either. Middle blockers are usually a taller players they have to block all the attacks, so they are going to be the taller players and then our outside hitters are once that usually have a really good ball control, they are consistent players, they have to take a lot of swings at the ball and then the difference of players have to be really go to getting low and lot of times they are the smaller, shorter, lower to the ground players like our Libero who is smaller. Yeah, and now usually you want them to be quick and lower to the ground doesn’t mean that six foot girl can do that, but -- Bridget Snapp: It’s on the harder. Mary Buczek: Yeah, it’s a little bit harder especially at this stage, and why there are still learning that. Bridget Snapp: They changing up here. Mary Buczek: Yeah, we are going to send them up and then switch to different drill or let’s slower down a little bit and do some serving. So we note that they will have each step in and serve. Bridget Snapp: I love serving. Mary Buczek: Okay, yeah, right. I’d love to watch somebody okay, this is the jump serve that we want to start on jump serve. Bridget Snapp: Thank you. Mary Buczek: Okay, but I think we’ll start to on a floater, let’s watch Donnelley here and this is what we are going to do. Bridget Snapp: Not only-- Mary Buczek: Are you right handed. Bridget Snapp: Right handed Mary Buczek: So you are going to check the ball in your left hand. You play tennis? Bridget Snapp: I have played tennis. Mary Buczek: Okay, so you can toss balls slightly above your head and to your right shoulder, okay, which you can put your arm up here by your head Bridget Snapp: Okay. Mary Buczek: And then you are going to step on to your left foot and put all your wait on it toss and contact. Bridget Snapp: Okay. Mary Buczek: Middle in the hand, middle of the ball. Is that simple? Bridget Snapp: That’s simple. Mary Buczek: They like given a hi-fi; you want to give the ball a hi-fi. Middle the hand no elbow, that’s all you need to know. Bridget Snapp: Do you always serve behind the line? Mary Buczek: Alright, yeah then you can serve from one side of the end line to the other. You can pick anywhere you want to serve that’s a new role in the last few years. Bridget Snapp: Really. Mary Buczek: It used to be only a certain area of the court you could serve from, when I’m played it was a small, little section in the right back. No more stalling, it was time to set these girls would have us made off. Mary Buczek: set contact there you go? Bridget Snapp: Despite some more great advice from coach Buczek and present with some of my new friends, I never mange to get the ball over the mat. Mary Buczek: Alright, arm has to big arm thrown that soft ball from there. Bridget Snapp: I guess stick to my day job. I ended my day with some words of wisdom from junior Casey Malieo. Female Speaker: Find a wall and play against it, like the wall is your friend. Oh! Like I’m not even kidding, hit against it, pass against it, set against it, the wall will always win, so you just got to fight for it I’m just go off everything in the wall and you’ll get better. Bridget Snapp: Okay, the wall is your friend, you heard it right here. Thank you so much. Female Speaker: Thank you.
