Ben Freedman: Hi there and welcome to Neo-fight.tv The Technology Review we’re two points of view. My name is Ben Freedman. Tiffany Young: And I'm Tiffany Young and today is Tuesday, August 29. Well, I was looking at different phones for my niece who is about—she just turned 14 I think and she asked for a new phone and I thought okay well there is such a big range to choose from. And I happen to come across in a website is Vtech V-Mix gz2335 and what’s so cool about this phone for a teen or maybe even college is it has a ton of different ring tones on it. It’s very simple, it’s sturdy if it gets dropped it’s not a big deal. It doesn’t have too many features that she’s not going to use such as voicemail and such because that goes into the main houseline. Its 30 bucks. Ben Freedman: 30 bucks is a good price for a component and it does have some pretty cool features. Tiffany Young: Which is a good price I mean that’s a great price for a gift. Ben Freedman: I have to tell you nobody over 30 is allowed to buy this phone. Tiffany Young: Well you could buy it and maybe you put it like in the bat game room or something. Ben Freedman: Or a game room phone yeah. Tiffany Young: Next to the pool table. Ben Freedman: Yeah next to the pool table. Tiffany Young: But it’s kind of a retro looking and it has like a retro design so it kind of goes with the whole like you know new age sort of theme. Ben Freedman: I do like the way that you can change—I mean it’s just a basic simple phone. It is sturdy I thought it was cool where you could change the colors. Tiffany Young: You can personalize it, which is really nice. Ben Freedman: You can pop off these—usually you can pop up—here you go. You can pop off these and then pop out a different one in and mix and match. Now we’ve got red and blue. Tiffany Young: Right, it’s almost patriotic. Ben Freedman: Yeah, because there are lights in the numbers look at that. Very, very July the 4th edition. It’s nice. It has got a nice easy to read display. Tiffany Young: Big display right. Ben Freedman: And the display actually has letters on it which I thought was cool. Let me see if you could actually see those letters. You like the ring tones? Tiffany Young: I do. Again, it’s all about personalization. You know kids are really into— Ben Freedman: Who the heck invented this idea of ring tones? I like the standard phone ring. I like the ring that goes— Tiffany Young: Well how about you know if your phone is ringing versus like 50 other people if you're in a room. It’s personal, like if you hear somebody and their phone goes off and it’s some sort of country music well you probably assume that they’re country music fan. Ben Freedman: Again, I'm 35. This is obviously the reason that I don’t get this phone. Tiffany Young: What are you saying that there is a generation gap or something? Ben Freedman: Exactly. Tiffany Young: That’s ridiculous. Ben Freedman: Let me ask you if— Tiffany Young: Anybody can get this phone and you don’t have to be over 30 to get it either. Ben Freedman: Would you want this? You know these are not very hit. Let’s see if we can find something— Tiffany Young: These are great. I mean these are ring tones that I would put in my phone, absolutely. Don’t make fun of me. Ben Freedman: This one is called heavy metal. I can see a head bang into this. Tiffany Young: It’s been awhile. Ben Freedman: Is this hip hop? Tiffany Young: That’s like retro meets—it’s like one of those old— Ben Freedman: Here you go. Tiffany Young: Dog barking? Ben Freedman: Anyway, you get the idea. You know like you said if I had—I don’t have any teenage nieces or nephews, but if I did I think it’s a perfect phone for a teenager. Tiffany Young: I think it’s a good phone for a teenager but trust me anybody at any age can buy this. I think it’s cool. Ben Freedman: Okay. Tiffany Young: I'm not going to make fun of you if I come over to your house and you have this phone unlike Ben who in the back of his mind, “Oh my gosh what a loser!” Ben Freedman: I think—design wise I thought it was a great phone. A couple of—it’s only missing a couple of things. First of all, there’s no speaker phone which maybe if you have a teenager isn’t such a bad thing. Tiffany Young: Right. Ben Freedman: It does have a headset. Tiffany Young: Right you only have speaker if you have a teenager. Ben Freedman: Oh that’s right you want to hear everything. Tiffany Young: Right. Ben Freedman: It does have a headset jack on here, so if your kids want to plug in a headset they can. Tiffany Young: Right. Ben Freedman: But no speaker phone, no mute button. So maybe that’s another good thing. Tiffany Young: Right. Ben Freedman: You know kids they can’t secretly be talking to their friends in the background while they're talking to their boyfriend on the phone because there’s no mute button on here. 2.0 GH, which is good. It’s the same as WiFi so if you put it too near your WiFi thing it can interfere with that and microwave ovens and that kind of stuff. But still I find their audio was clear, it sounded good. So I got to tell you. It delivers what it promises for 30 bucks. I would not buy it myself because I'm too old. If you can drive a car you don’t want this phone. Tiffany Young: You know, you're aging yourself. You can never be too old for certain things right. Ben Freedman: Three out of five for me. Tiffany Young: And it’s for the July edition on top of it. Ben Freedman: Three out of five for me. It does what it says it’s going to do. It has a couple of missing features, but I think it’s a cute, cool phone. Tiffany Young: I'm going to give it a four out of five. The only thing I'm docking it four is not having a speaker phone, which I think is very important especially when you’re on hold or somebody is on hold, to heat that speaker button is really a big feature in my book. You can multi-task. So four out of five for me. Ben Freedman: So that’s four out of five for Tiffany, three out of five for me. So that’s seven out of ten for the Vtech V-Miz gz2335.
