Watch Camel Races in Rajasthan, India

Description

Join Julie Conover and Passport to Adventure on a visit to the state of Rajasthan in India.

Transcript
Julie: The next morning, we emerged from our tent city and hop on a traditional camel cart for a jaunt through the acres of dusty fair grounds. This is a relaxing way to take in the overwhelming array of sights. Male: The handsome beasts are paraded in their Pushkar vest. Elaborate neck pieces made from colorful yarn, bells, and tussles adorned the camels. Their thick coats are decoratively sheared to create geometric and floral motifs. Julie: We joined the rest of the crowd headed for the heart of the festival area where the grand finale takes place. In the central stadium, the most exciting element of the festival was about to begin. Crowds filled the grand stand to cheer on their favorites in the camel and horse races. I did it. Male: The desert of Rajasthan represents only a tiny slice of this immense country. But the cultural contribution of the region far outweighs its insignificant geographic size. Julie: The chaos of Delhi and the grandeur of the Taj Mahal are certainly memorable. But it is the mesmerizing dunes of the Thar and its vibrant people that will forever color your memories. Male: For all the Passport to Adventure team here in India, thanks for joining us. And we’ll look forward to seeing you from another exotic corner of the globe.
