When Can a Woman Go Home after Hip Replacement Surgery

Description

Dr. Bates explains when a woman can go home after having a hip replacement.

Transcript
I typically recommend that patients get up the day of surgery. I think it’s important from a psychological standpoint as well as a physical standpoint that if a patient gets up the same day of surgery, i.e they are up in the afternoon after surgery that morning, then the anxiety about rehabilitation is already breached and it would probably knock a day off their hospitalization. They also tend to get used to conditioning their muscles right after the surgery and they realize for the first time that the pain that they had prior to surgery, their arthritis pain is actually gone, now they’re dealing with some surgical pain. But many times, that’s not nearly as bad as the arthritis pain. So people are quite surprised and many people will spend one day in a hospital and you can go home the next day provided they do get up the day of surgery.
