When to Bring the Significant Other Home

Matt Titus: He has passed all of your test, you like him, your friends like him and even passed with your 10 year old Chihuahua seems so live and up around him. Tamsen Fadal: So now there's no more avoiding the inevitable it’s time to bring him home to meet your parents. Matt Titus: Today we’ll figure out the best way to bring him home. Hey everybody Matt and Tamsen. Okay today’s topic in a movie out—of a very successful movie, because it’s so true to life meet the parents when you take him home? Tamsen Fadal: Exactly when is the right time. Honestly, this is the topic that just eats away at— Matt Titus: The man or the woman— Tamsen Fadal: Both actually. Everybody is terrified because— Matt Titus: Those significant others. Tamsen Fadal: I think the most important here to remember is that every family has a little quirky and a little unique. Matt Titus: If I have someone to take I just want to tell the story well fast. Tamsen Fadal: Yes it’s true. Matt Titus: My father told me like listen you have brought so many guys home with so many weird guys in our family pictures that we don’t even know anymore. That the trail of losers goes on and it stops here and then you’re not mad like right before I met him my father is like nobody else comes home for the holidays unless you think you’re going to marry him. And like are you kidding I wanted to-- Tamsen Fadal: I’ve got a tail into that deal we’re together for like three months and Christmas came and I have to spend it alone because again she is to date losers. And I was banned, I’m not a loser that’s why I’ve got the price. And I’ve got there about--what was it? Matt Titus: It was like 6 months before Matt was logic but it always—it’s scary for both sides like it’s scary for the person doing the bringing home and it’s also scary for the person that’s going. So how do you make them feel comfortable? Tamsen Fadal: I think you’re going to feel comfortable inside. He or she has the same crazy grandmother that’s going to pinch his butt and tell him that he has nicer butt than your last boyfriend. I mean it’s just going to happen—everybody has a crazy relative and if you know that inside just relax its okay— Matt Titus: Yes 0208 the person that you’re bringing home because it’s so unfair like walking to a house of 20 people and then they introduce and trying to remember all these names it’s so stressful. Tamsen Fadal: Exactly in every single relative you should as Tampa said give your significant or profile on. So you know exactly what he knows—he should know exactly what to expect when he walks in. Matt Titus: Yes it happened to little family somewhat which I didn’t do and I shouldn’t have. So you’re like—you tell your family how to treat this person coming home and explain to them that they’re not part of the family yet so they don’t know all of the quirks. Tamsen Fadal: You also have to threatened them I mean Tamsen’s family shouldn’t have-- Matt Titus: I was four years old then I have. Tamsen Fadal: Perfections from the 1990s she doesn’t look the same trust me and they were it’s former torture; they will torture her and I don’t think she threatened them enough but I’ve got all over the pictures-- Matt Titus: Big hair pictures not much to change. Tamsen Fadal: The only thing is make sure that the visit isn’t like trying out to make an overnight the first time. Matt Titus: Yes not overnight the first time. Tamsen Fadal: Or a weekend. And that’s like a night where there are too much pressure. And don’t leave your significant other alone with those relatives. Matt Titus: Like for very long I don’t let him get cornered or get cornered in the kitchen it was your mom explaining about your last boyfriend and how much your mom hated your last one. It’s so wonder how much— Tamsen Fadal: She needs to be married I mean mothers can figure or do a lot of damages in a short period of time. Matt Titus: Yes, so if you’re going to bring this significant other home to meet the parents make sure you have a good plan. So don’t leave that person alone with your family, prep them on a family like go through a little list of your grandmother is this, uncle is this— Tamsen Fadal: Pictures and profiles sort of like a mission— Matt Titus: And have a little family summit and of course don’t bring him home too soon because I think families get all excited when somebody comes home and I think like this is the one that you’re serious about, so make sure somebody really do care about. Tamsen Fadal: And make sure that if it has to be a weekend everybody doesn’t have out of bounds sleeping, arrangements expectations— Matt Titus: Oh yes the sleeping arrangements. Tamsen Fadal: Honestly, don’t sleeps together, doesn’t expect it—tell your significant other that’s not going to happen, respect your parents rules. Matt Titus: Try on separate rooms. Tamsen Fadal: And like the midnight rendezvous thing now you can always made them like in the kitchen. Matt Titus: With separate rooms I just want to— Tamsen Fadal: And we meet the kitchen midnight it’s awesome. Matt Titus: Okay it’s the Matt and Tamsen.
