Why Celebrities Become Fashion Icons Rhiannon Ally: Welcome back to Better. We have joining us today for our hot topic segment, Better’s Financing Clear Expert, Maribel Aber. We’ve got some fun stuff to talk about today. Maribel Aber: I know. I’m excited. Rhiannon Ally: I am, too. Now, we mentioned earlier in the show, Holly Madison is starting a new line of candy necklaces. Why is it that everything celebrities touched turns to gold? Maribel Aber: You know, when you think about it, you think of Paris Hilton, think of Kim Kardashian, it’s like I think people are attached to figuring why not be part of that brand? Rhiannon Ally: Yeah because why would I want to eat a candy necklace of hers more than just a plain old $0.50 candy necklace. Maribel Aber: I think it’s a fascination of being part of the Playboy world and Holly’s world and also, when you watch these people on TV, they kind of become your friends. You know what I mean? It’s like, “Oh my God!” It’s like when you watch QVC or you when you watch—so pop, “Oh my God! They’re my friend. They’re talking to me.” So that’s what I think of these people. Rhiannon Ally: You think you know them a little bit more. Do you think reality shows have really upped people in getting those celebrities endorsing products? Maribel Aber: 1000%. When you see—what was her name? She has a whole baby line now. I think its Trista. She has a whole baby line now, right? Rhiannon Ally: It is Trista from the Bachelorette. Maribel Aber: Right. People become familiar with them, they start trusting them but I just think it’s a brilliant idea like all of the sudden, wow! I’ve got clothes and maybe that small percentage might be actually be talented in that area. I mean you look at J.Lo. I think that she really probably has some of these talents who can create all these different lines. Rhiannon Ally: Well she definitely is a fashion expert. So, creating her own clothing line I think was kind of smart but some of the other people it’s like where did these come from? Maribel Aber: I know. Rhiannon Ally: Why am I buying this? But I still buy it? You do. Maribel Aber: I mean look at Jessica Simpson, the shoes, the bags. I had no idea. I think I was walking into whatever store, in Macy’s. Rhiannon Ally: They’re everywhere. All her stuff is everywhere, it’s amazing. It’s a million dollar. It’s so smart like you said. Now, one thing celebrities wouldn’t probably want to live in the following cities. We have a list, this is an interesting list. It’s the 10 best cities for the next decade and these are cities that are really thinking outside the box when it comes to new businesses, when it comes to just city planning, everything. And there are some pricing ones on the list. So, they really aren’t some big cities. The first one, number one is Austin Texas. Why do you think Austin is number one? Maribel Aber: Well I think maybe they’re open to building. I think creating more opportunities for smaller businesses. I know I have a conference I go to in Dallas every year and it’s like 5000 women and they’re all entrepreneurs. I feel like that they’re from that area. I don’t know if they are tax advantages. You can look into that in different areas but I think if you and I always say, if you got a passion for something and there's a place that will allow you to have that opportunity, go for it. I mean, that’s amazing, Austin. What other cities are they talking about? Rhiannon Ally: There are some interesting ones. At number four is Boulder, Colorado which we all know Colorado is desirable with the mountains when you’re waking up there. Maribel Aber: Sure and I can I imagine starting small businesses that focus in that kind of smother region, you know deal with. I don’t know, skiing or the area. I just think it’s great for them to be taking advantage of something like that. Rhiannon Ally: Let me ask you this, for people possibly wanting to start a new business, is it maybe smarter to go to some of these smaller cities than it is to kind of start in a New York City or even Atlanta or Phoenix? Maribel Aber: Well yes for a startup cause. I mean, you can always startup things online if you really wanted to cut cost. But if you wanted to just test something out and you were that kind of person that wanted to live in a small area, that’s a great place to do it. Absolutely, I mean New York is very expensive. Rhiannon Ally: Yeah. So, New York is not on this list, neither is LA by the way. Thanks Maribel.
